Ride List for April 15-21 2017

This weekend is one of my favorite events of the year. The El Grupo Scavenger Hunt is a super fun, challenging yet a family-friendly event. You bring your bike (and friends!). El Grupo will give you a map of the downtown area. On the back you will find 10 riddles to solve and 10 objects to find. You will race, ride or gallop (at your chosen pace!) within a 3 mile radius of downtown searching for the objects, tackling feats of strength and stupidity, and learning about obscure parts in downtown Tucson you never knew existed!  There is no better way of discovering the community than this ride. Enjoy coffee and treats from Beyond Bread while you get ready to rid as well as adult drinks from Catalina Brewing Company and lunch included in registration. There will also be a raffle with prizes from awesome local businesses! And there is a 100% chance that everyone’s favorite community photographer will be there to catch you in all the silliness.

April is BikeFest. Living Street Alliance has a calendar of events at https://www.bikefesttucson.com/events/2017-04/  Events range from skill classes, mechanic workshops, bike in movies, brewery rides and more.

This list is a major time commitment and it is my pleasure to put it together.  All I ask in return for the list is that you remember I’m A REALTOR.  If you have a relationship with another REALTOR, I love loyalty and respect those relationships.  However, if not, or if you need a second opinion, Please keep me in mind.  Many agents spend money advertising for new business, others sit open houses or cold call.  My business is based on referrals from past clients and friends.  The less time I have to do traditional prospecting the more I can do for the cycling community.  For example: this list.

Ride on,

Damion

I DID NOT CONFIRM EVERY TIME, but did get in touch with most of the ride leaders and shops.  You should always verify times before you head out and remember these ride times are when the ride leaves.  Please show up as early as needed to make sure you are ready to roll out at the time posted.

RIDE AND EVENT DISCLAIMER

These rides are not mine.  I am only sharing the data.  The Damion Alexander Team  cannot guarantee anybody’s safety.  There are unknown and unforeseen potential hazards in every ride so you should  pay attention and take reasonable precautions.  I always use a helmet.  I think that Helmets are required when riding.  If you choose to listen to music during rides you should only use the headset in the right ear and keep the headset out of the left ear. Better yet, buy a FarEnd Gear earbud.  Communication is essential during all rides and having the ability to hear is a part of your responsibility to others.  Please also ride within your limitations. You are  not racing the Tour de France.  If you see someone  that is  not riding within their limitations or are becoming a hazard to others we should politely bring this to their your attention  Dothis for your and everybody’s safety.

Also, it is everybody’s responsibility to follow all traffic laws.  We are not lemmings.  Just because somebody does something foolish does not mean you need to follow.  Use your head and enjoy your ride.

THE DAMION ALEXANDER TEAM, DAMION ALEXANDER, AND ANYONE ELSE WHO CONTRIBUTES TO THIS LIST SPECIFICALLY DISCLAIM RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY ACCIDENT OR INJURY THAT OCCURS ON THSES RIDES.  EVERY PERSON IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS AROUND THEM

WHERE DO ALL THE RIDES COME FROM?  These links and shops and clubs and teams and facebook and YOU.  See a ride that is missing.  Please let me know  Damion@DamionAlexadner.com.  Thanks

THIS LIST IS PROVIDED AT A COURTESY OF THE DAMION ALEXANDER TEAM.  THIS LIST IS DEEMED RELIABLE, BUT NOT GUARANTEED.  WHEN POSSIBLE, CONTACT INFORMATION FOR THE GROUP RIDERS ARE PROVIDED.  TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND DOUBLE CHECK OR GO TO THE RIDE AND IF NO ONE IS THERE, GO RIDE BY YOURSELF.

No Joking – Ride list for April Fools day through April 8th

This weekend is the Tour De Mesa.  I hope everyone who is up there has a great ride and keeps the rubber side down.  Sunday Cyclovia will be the perfect recovery ride. Unfortunately, I can’t make it to Mesa, but will be out shooting photos at Cyclovia.

It’s that time of the year.  Most of the morning rides start earlier. It seems like each week one of them is changing, so check to make sure the time before you head out.

Arizona Cyclist is closing their Campbell location in two weeks. Steve said to come on down and check out some great deals. He would rather sell it than move it.

Perhaps you have dreamed of owning your own bike shop. ProBikes, now Lemmon Bikes, on Tanque Verde would love an offer on everything. 35K and you can have everything from the espresso machine to all the tools, displays and inventory.  Ask for Jerry.

Last year I was appointed to the Pima County Parks and Rec Commission. I’ve spent the first 6 months trying to figure out what is the purpose of this advisory position and to see how it can be used to advance my agenda( It’s Bikes and getting people outdoors if you were unaware). This past week I was able to use the position to set up meetings with county Supervisor Christy and Administrator Huckleberry for a group looking at bringing 300-400 cyclist to Tucson next year.  Pima county clearly understands the value cycling brings to the community and they are very interested in bringing people to the Old Pueblo to ride. If you have any concerns or ideas about our parks, let me know. I’m listening.

Thanks

Community Ride List

Have I mentioned I like Bikes?  Not just to ride, but as public art installations as well. One of my favorite Tucson Artists, Joe Pagac, has a vision for a whimsical bike mural on the corner of Speedway and Stone on Epic Rides Galactic Headquarters.  It represents so much that is great about the Tucson art and cycling community and will be a constant reminder of how important cycling is in the region. Like so many great projects, it does require funding so Joe Started a Kickstarter campaign and has already raised $15,500 of the $18,000 he needs. With Kickstarter, if he does not reach the goal, the project does not happen and there are only a few days left in the campaign. If you are so inclined, please kick in a few bucks. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1092548129/huge-cycling-bike-mural-for-tucson-arizona

The Ride list is below,

This coming Wednesday, there is a Summit on Distracted Driving in Phoenix. There will be a ride to the Capitol from Tempe as well as speakers, expo and lunch. This year there are 7 bills in the State House and Senate pertaining to distracted driving, BUT we are being told the Senator Bob Worsley (R-Mesa), Chair of the Transportation Committee, will not allow any to be heard. It does not make any logical sense why he is trying to kill these bills that are for the safety of everyone who uses the roads in Arizona.

Please take a few minutes and call his office to express your interest in having these bills heard. 602-926-5760.  Also, Senator Worsley is a supporter of http://www.arizonavoices.org where you can rate bills and comment.

A few more details on the event for those who care. WHO—Everyone who uses the roads in Arizona.  WHAT– A Bicycle Ride to The State Capitol where there will be speakers discussing all topics pertaining to distracted driving as well as over 30 vendors who will have educational booths.  All this Plus Free Lunch catered by Beyond Bread.  WHERE – Starting at Tempe Beach Park (80 W. Rio Salado Pkwy  Tempe AZ) and riding to Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza across from The Arizona State Capitol (about 10 miles). WHEN – January 25th, 2017  9AM (Foot in Pedal)WHY– The Arizona Distracted Driving Summit, Expo and to meet with YOUR State Legislators. For Additional Details & Up to Date Changes Check Out

On Facebook we have two events set up.  One for this ride and one for the Summit.  Please like these events, invite friends, and share the event on your page  http://tinyurl.com/RideOnTheCapitol and http://tinyurl.com/DistractedDrivingSummit

Thanks

Happy New Year.  If your resolution was to ride more miles in 2017 this list of rides will help keep you on track.

If you know anyone who would like to receive the list, please feel free to send them my way.  Damion@DamionAlexander.com

I’ve been really busy working on the distracted driving summit at the State Capital in Phoenix on the 25th.  We need to have a GIGANTIC turn out so the state can see how important safety is.  There will be a ride from Tempe to the Capital that morning. Please share the event and do what you can to make it!

Thanks

The Community Ride List for December 3-10

It’s arrived!!! The month when we don’t have time to do anything because we are doing everything.  Holiday Parties, shopping, family, travel, and hours and hours of frustrating time in traffic.

With the shorter days and colder weather finding time to ride the Bike can be allusive.  Having once successfully ridden 365 days straight, I recommend that you make the bike ride the top priority. Ride as early in the day as possible, if not the days will just slip away.  Also, figure out the appropriate gear ASAP.  Gloves? Head warmer? Arm and Leg Warmers? Jacket? Wicking base layer? Boot Covers? No matter how cold it gets in Tucson there is cycling apparel that can keep you at a comfortable riding temperature and is still flexible enough to allow for hours of riding.

I would also consider commuting to get in the miles and you might find with the traffic you get there faster.  Since it is not hot, you won’t arrive sweaty.  Personally, I keep a few suits in the office and ride on the days I know I’m not meeting clients.  I guarantee, you will have a Happy Holiday Season if you spend more time in the saddle and less behind the wheel of the auto.

Thanks

The most important ride list of the Year

This is the most important ride list of the year.  Why?  Because more people in Tucson train for El Tour De Tucson and after ride day, put the bike down for months and even years.  With the holidays, parties, family, and all the stress that we shoulder this time of the year, it’s easy to hang up the bike.

So I’m challenging you to commit now to making cycling a year long commitment. If you are the type of person who needs to have an event to trail for, the list has races, multiple day tours and charitable rides.  Perhaps start commuting to work once a week.

There is no joy that I have experienced in all I do for the cycling community than when someone comes up and says that I motivated them to get on the bike and they have lost weight, or are in control of their diabetes, and even that their intimate relationships are on the rise.

I look forward to hearing your success story.  Now, Get on your bikes and ride.

Damion

___________________________________________________________________________

This list is a major time commitment and it is my pleasure to put it together.  All I ask in return for the list is that you remember I’m A REALTOR.  If you have a relationship with another REALTOR, I love loyalty and respect those relationships.  However, if not, or if you need a second opinion, Please keep me in mind.  Many agents spend money advertising for new business, others sit open houses or cold call.  My business is based on referrals from past clients and friends.  The less time I have to do traditional prospecting the more I can do for the cycling community.  For example: this list.

I DID NOT CONFIRM EVERY TIME, but did get in touch with most of the ride leaders and shops.  You should always verify times before you head out and remember these ride times are when the ride leaves.  Please show up as early as needed to make sure you are ready to roll out at the time posted.

We are almost there.  The grand daddy of Tucson Rides.  Over 8000 riders will be taking over the streets of Tucson next weekend for the Tucson Medical Center 34th El Tour de Tucson presented by Casino del Sol.  For many, it’s a good week to taper.  For others, like me, it might be about time to start training;-)

I’d like to THANK all who have donated to my ride for a child as well as everyone who has been riding for the other 60 beneficiaries of El Tour.  I’ve been thinking that next year I’d like to ride for each and every one of them. It fuels my soul seeing so many help others doing what they love.  Truly a win/win.  There is still time to donate if you want to give and I’m only $300 away from my goal.  Click Here to donate.

There are many activities that surround the El Tour Super Week, beginning one week prior to ride day, includes a 2-day El Tour Bike, Fitness & Health EXPO, El Tour Orientation Meetings, a Rusing, Lopez & Lizardi El Tour Dedication Dinner at Casino del Sol and an 8-day Indoor El Tour program.

Ride day begins with the Rio Nuevo 104-mile Main Event followed by the 76-Mile El Tour, the 54-Mile El Tour, the 40-Mile El Tour, the Town of Marana 28-Mile El Tour as well as the Tucson Medical Center El Tour Fun Ride presented by McDonald’s.  Tune into the Cenpatico Integrated Care Ride Day Radio Show on ESPN Tucson for up-to-the-minute coverage of the front runners as well as interviews and updates from the remote starts. The HSL Properties Downtown Fiesta with kids activities, music, a Michelob ULTRA Garden, food, massages and an on-going Grand Cycling Awards Ceremony round out the day.

Thanks
