Community Bike Ride List June 27-July 3

Happy Monsoon.  It’s hot and wet out there.  Be aware that new “obstacles” like sand and rocks are washed on the road this time of year.  Be kind and call or point out hazards.  Remember to hydrate and keep on pedaling.  This time of the year can mentally be challenging to get on the bike, but it is well worth the effort.  I hope to see you on the road this week.

I’m leading a ride Sunday morning for Tu Nidito.  It will be about 50 miles and 18 MPH plus.  They have two other rides that are short and shorter, so one for all speeds.  Free Breakfast after the rides.

This list is a major time commitment and it is my pleasure to put it together.  All I ask in return for the list is that you remember I’m A REALTOR.  If you have a relationship with another REALTOR, I love loyalty and respect those relationships.  However, if not, or if you need a second opinion, please keep The Damion Alexander Team in mind.  Many agents spend money advertising for new business, some door knock and others cold call.  My business is based on referrals from past clients and friends.  The less time I have to do traditional prospecting the more I can do for the clients and friends you refer my team AND for the cycling community.  For example: This list.

I DID NOT CONFIRM EVERY TIME THIS WEEK FOR THE REOCCURING RIDES.  I TRY AND GIVE CONTACT INFO SO YOU CAN CHECK ON THE RIDES.

RIDE AND EVENT DISCLAIMER

These rides are not mine.  I am only sharing the data.  The Damion Alexander Team  cannot guarantee anybody’s safety.  There are unknown and unforeseen potential hazards in every ride so you should  pay attention and take reasonable precautions.  I always use a helmet.  I think that Helmets are required when riding.  If you choose to listen to music during rides you should only use the headset in the right ear and keep the headset out of the left ear. Better yet, buy a FarEnd Gear earbud.  Communication is essential during all rides and having the ability to hear is a part of your responsibility to others.  Please also ride within your limitations. You are  not racing the Tour de France.  If you see someone  that is  not riding within their limitations or are becoming a hazard to others we should politely bring this to their your attention  Dothis for your and everybody’s safety.

Also, it is everybody’s responsibility to follow all traffic laws.  We are not lemmings.  Just because somebody does something foolish does not mean you need to follow.  Use your head and enjoy your ride.

Weekly Bike Ride List for June 13-20

YOUR BIKE MISSES YOU!  You know who you are.  It’s so easy to fall into the pattern.  It starts with a flat tire, a big project at work, or after the last big ride you trained for and you have not been on the bicycle since.  It’s time, this week, to recommit.  Do it for the fitness, do it for the better looking body, do it for the mind, but most of all just do it because bikes are so fun to ride.  Below are rides for every level and every speed.

This week I’m recommending a few rides that will get you back in the saddle.  Both are lead by Tu Nidito as part of their El Tour De Tucson “Ride for a Child” program.  Both will have a free breakfast afterwards.  The fast ride should be about 50 miles and average pace will be 18 MPH plus.  The second is a no drop ride and everyone should free comfortable attending (even those who have been neglecting their trusty steads).  These rides are open to everyone; that means YOU!

6:30 AM Sunday 3922 N. Mountain Avenue https://www.facebook.com/events/433641326797164/

There is one event that I’m encouraging everyone to attend this week. On Monday, June 15, 4:00 PM at the River Park Inn, 777 W. Cushing St. is the kick-off press conference for the YES on Pima County Bonds campaign.  It’s important to show broad community support and your attendance there will be very helpful.  Why am I posting something political on this page?  Because if you ride a bike and live in Pima County, this Bond has so much that is going to impact and enhance your lifestyle, that you should support it.  Just to name a few of the 99 programs that will be good for cycling: The Arizona Bicycle Center Velodrome, 2 BMX parks, Finishing “the Loop”, and repaving roads….

Community Bike Ride List April 18-24, 2015

If you only do to one bike event this week, I’m asking you to get political and attend the Pima County Supervisors meeting on Tuesday.  They will be making the final decision on if we will have a bond election this fall.  There are many projects that will benefit the cycling community and I am a HUGE yes vote for this Bond.  It is at 9:00 Am on Tuesday downtown.

This list is a major time commitment and it is my pleasure to put it together.  All I ask in return for the list is that you remember I’m A REALTOR.  If you have a relationship with another REALTOR, I love loyalty and respect those relationships.  However, if not, or if you need a second opinion, Please keep me in mind.  Many agents spend money advertising for new business, others sit open houses or cold call.  My business is based on referrals from past clients and friends.  The less time I have to do traditional prospecting the more I can do for the cycling community.  For example: this list.

THIS LIST IS PROVIDED AT A COURTESY OF THE DAMION ALEXANDER TEAM.  THIS LIST IS DEEMED RELIABLE, BUT NOT GUARANTEED.  WHEN POSSIBLE, CONTACT INFORMATION FOR THE GROUP RIDERS ARE PROVIDED.  TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND DOUBLE CHECK OR GO TO THE RIDE AND IF NO ONE IS THERE, GO RIDE BY YOURSELD.

THE DAMION ALEXANDER TEAM, DAMION ALEXANDER, AND ANYONE ELSE WHO CONTRIBUTES TO THIS LIST SPECIFICALLY DISCLAIM RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY ACCIDENT OR INJURY THAT OCCURS ON THSES RIDES.  EVERY PERSON IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS AROUND THEM

The Little Engine That Could

Riding into the finish with the sweep car behind you is an emotional experience that many people will never experience.  Those emotions can range from the elation of just finishing to a sense of utter shame for being the last one out there.  One thing is for certain, you get some extra time in the saddle to help you determine the mood you are going to embrace.  Most of the time you are out there by yourself and only have your own emotions to keep you company.

Jill plugging away on the climb.
Jill plugging away on Rattlesnake Pass

This past weekend, in the Tucson Tour De Cure, I had the opportunity to ride in with the last rider.  This rider, Jill Clements, is a real estate assistant in my office at Long Realty and signed up on “The Damion Alexander Team” for the ride.  She has been riding for years, but had not put in much effort prior to this ride as life has been getting in the way of life, as is the case for most of us.  She signed up for the 50K ride.

I was taking photos on Rattlesnake Pass when Jill came riding up.  She was definitely suffering, but pedaling away at a slow consistent rate.  I ran behind her the last 100 yards giving her a big push.  I went back to my photos for 5 minutes before chasing her down.  It amazed me it took so long to catch her as we were riding into a head wind.

We rode in the last five mile together.  I learned she had 2 flat tires on the day and had been out riding for almost the entire time by herself, with the sweep truck stalking her from behind. Jill was definitely experiencing a heightened level of emotions, but used that fuel to make it to the finish line.  In my book, that makes Jill a Winner.  I’ve finished with the pack on many rides and it is not nearly as gratifying, physically and mentally challenging  as the days when I finished even when I was done miles before the end.   Being out in the wind for those extra minutes can be the longest hours of your life.

This morning, when I arrived at Long Realty, Jill was already at her desk plugging away.  You might have guessed by now, but she was not offered a pro deal over the weekend and is sticking with her day job.  She has Yoga tonight and a bike ride scheduled for tomorrow. What I find so wonderful about this story and life in general is seeing someone go outside of their comfort zone, in this case way outside, but to stick with the task until it is done.  We are all so capable of doing more than we ever can imagine.  Jill proved that at the Tour De Cure.  What challenge is on your list?

Jill made a huge push the last mile to ride in with A Red Rider.

Community Bike Ride List February 6-13

Last week The Damion Alexander Team shared thousands of photos from various rides and events around Tucson.  To see the photos, Look at “The Damion Alexander Team” on facebook and please like it while you are there.

Two bills are currently being reviewed in the AZ State Legislature. SB 1102 which would prohibit texting and driving and SB 1302 which modifies AZ Vulnerable Users Laws to include bicyclists and stiffer penalties. Please consider writing, emailing or calling your AZ Legislator to ask them to support both of these bills. They both are currently assigned to the Transportation Committee chaired by Sen. Bob Worsley and to the Public Safety Military Technology Committee chaired by Sen. Steve Smith. You can find out who your Legislators are by visiting http://www.azleg.gov/MemberRoster.asp?Body=S

Community Ride List January 17-23

Friday the 23rd there will be another meeting to support building a Velodrome in Tucson.   Even if you have no intention of riding it, the cycling community could really use your support.   The next time you need support for your sweet new section of single track,  building that BMX park, or fixing a pot hole I’ll be asking the road, BMX and  track community to support your cause.  If we all work together we can make Tucson the Bike Capital of the Universe.  Here’s the event link for more details https://www.facebook.com/events/779479422107186/?fref=ts.

If you can’t make it, please fill in this survey.  It will only take you 90 seconds.   We have over 600 responses and the goal is over 1000 before the meeting.

Community Bike Ride List Jan 3-9, 2015

HAPPY NEW YEARS!!!!

Hopefully this list will help keep you motivated and in the saddle all year long.  Personally, my goal is to do at least as much if not more for the cycling community in 2015 as I did in 2014.

I have some fun plans for the ride list in 2015.  It will be gradual as time permits and you can expect it to get better and better.  Your comments are greatly appreciated.
