SUMMARY:Valley of the Sun Stage Race
DESCRIPTION:32nd Annual John Earley Memorial\n\n\n\n\nFebruary 16 – 18\, 2024\nNew Time Trial\nFriday – Feb 16th\n24001 S Rainbow Valley Rd\nBuckeye\, AZ 85326\n35+ Miles\, 45 minutes from Phoenix\n7:00 AM \nRoad Race\nSaturday\, Feb 17th\nI-10 South of Phoenix\nExit 185 (SR 187/387)\nAZ-387 & Tamarack Way\nCasa Grande\, AZ 85194\n35 Miles\, 35 minutes from\nTempe \nCriterium \nSunday\, Feb 18th\n1900 W Jefferson St.\nPhoenix\, AZ 85009\nParking @ 19th AVE\nand Jefferson \n\nThe Annual Valley of the Sun Stage Race takes place in February each year in the greater Phoenix area. The Valley of the Sun bicycle race is a three-day USA Cycling event in which professional and amateur road racing cyclists compete in different categories for cash and non-cash prizes. A stage is held each day\, with riders in each category competing for a stage victory and also for their category’s overall ‘General Classification race win by having the lowest cumulative time for all three stages. The stages include the Landis Cyclery – Trek Individual Time Trial on Friday\, the Safeco Insurance\, Parrish Agency\, Road Race on Saturday\, and the exciting Hiser Joy criterium on Sunday in downtown Phoenix. There are over 700 participants in 25 categories of professional and amateur riders\, both men and women\, ages 10 to over 60\, all competing for their portion of a $20\,000 cash purse. \nRecognized by USA Cycling as one of the premier road cycling events in the Southwest\, The Valley of the Sun Stage Race is the first event of the annual American Road Calendar. The American Road Calendar highlights top events in the U.S. for riders across various categories to put on their list of must-do events. \n“The Valley of the Sun Stage Race has been a part of our Junior Development Series for many years. We are pleased to give them the recognition they deserve for providing a great experience for all categories of racers.” \nChuck Hodge\, Chief of Racing and Events\, USA Cycling \nFor the tenth year\, VOS will include a Hand Cycle category. The Paralyzed Veterans Racing Team\, along with the Free Wheel Foundation have been key supporters helping to drive the success of this new event. Darol Kubacz of the PVRT had this to say about VOS: “What VOS offers for the athletes is outstanding – above and beyond what most cycling events around the country have been able to offer “adapted” cyclist. I have great confidence in this event being a great experience for the beginner and advanced racer!” \nAlong with the three days of racing\, there are events on Sunday for children under the age of 12\, including a kid’s bicycle race. A portion of the proceeds from the race are donated to the SAFE KIDS Coalition of Maricopa County and the Phoenix Police Department to support child helmet safety awareness. \nThe Valley of the Sun Stage Race is put on by the White Mountain Road Club\, and is one of the largest bicycle races in the nation. Race promoter\, Brian Lemke\, had this to say about the race: “It is a great opportunity for cyclists of all ages and categories to brush shoulders and race on the same course as many of the top professional and amateur riders in America.” \nSeveral local businesses help to support the race through sponsorship of the White Mountain Road Club\, including Landis Cyclery\, Trek Bikes\, Hiser  Joy P.L.C.\,  and Tri-City Cardiology.

SUMMARY:Belgian Waffle Ride AZ
DESCRIPTION:2024 Belgian Waffle Ride Arizona \nMarch 1 – 2\, 2024 \nWelkom to the first stop of the Belgian Waffle Ride Tripel Crown of Gravel… \nThe Second Annual Belgian Waffle Ride Arizona is something we cannot wait to share with you. It’ll be a unique desert and mountain experience\, which will be known at the Hell of the North Desert. Here is a snapshot of information about the event and what to expect… \nBUT\, THERE ARE ONLY 1\,000 SPOTS THIS YEAR! \nThere is a formula to the creation of each new Belgian Waffle Ride\, and this year’s first BWR and the kick-off to the Tripel Crown of Gravel\, is the newest manifestation of this formula. The BWR AZ\, which will take place in Cave Creek\, Arizona\, on the fringes of the Valley of the Sun\, embodies the three ingredients that make the BWR so special. 1) A dream destination\, 2) varied terrain to accommodate an extremely dynamic racecourse\, and 3) a cycling community that is both vibrant and desirous of the Unroad experience only the BWR can offer. \n1) Located in the heart of the Sonoran Desert\, on the fringes of North Scottsdale\, the BWR AZ will start and finish at Stagecoach Village in Cave Creek and take in a seamless connection of beautiful desert and varied challenging terrain with breathtaking views and near-perfect riding conditions. The area enjoys over 300 days of sunshine and incredible scenery\, with conditions that are perfect for exhilarating Unroad riding\, including crushing climbs to beautiful views of the surrounding desert. The destination is a picture-perfect town in the desert foothills that brings together history\, culture\, and nature in a unique atmosphere. The downtown area has plenty to offer the entire family\, and the city is surrounded by many other destinations that you don’t want to miss out on. \n2) The topography\, transitioning from the verdant riparian environment along the Salt River to the foothills of the McDowell Mountains\, will offer towering saguaro cactus standing sentry against a backdrop of made-to-order sunsets. The springtime temperatures will nurture an array of stunning wildflowers among an ocean of vibrant green cacti and remain mild enough for riders to enjoy the full day of riding. The BWR AZ will bring along technical Unroads punctuated by pristine tarmac in the outskirts of Scottsdale. The course in and around Cave Creek will boast a fantastic concoction of terrible terrain\, including pitchy undulations in Carefree\, Tonto Forest mountains & washes\, Rio Verde\, sinuous single-track in McDowell Mountain Regional Park & its Sonoran Preserve\, and smooth roads connecting gravel sectors completely unique to this desert playground. The dynamic nature of the course\, which at roughly 122-miles is less than the usual BWR\, will surely devastate even the most well-trained professional gravelleurs by its finale – a series of steep\, paved climbs with pitches of 20%. How do you say\, “Ouchie\,” in Flemish. Oh yeah\, it’s AUW! Kind of like\, WTF! \n3) And then there is the third and final ingredient – a vibrant cycling community. Not only has the area been designated one of only 35 gold-level bicycle-friendly communities in the US\, with its safe accommodations\, miles of designated bike lanes\, and\, of course\, a plethora of trails to explore – both urban and desert – it has an extensive network of cycling teams\, enthusiasts\, and every type of bike shop to support them. This Sonoran Desert locale is the most diverse desert in the world\, offering amazing views along the rocky mountain ranges that surround it. No wonder this destination has become home to such an active and enthusiastic bike community. \nHere is the 2023 Course Information: \nWAFFLE- \nhttps://ridewithgps.com/routes/42090710 \n122-Miles/196-Kilometers \n~9\,000 Feet of Climbing \n8 Unroad sectors (the rest is road\, dirt\, gravel) \n50% Unroad (Long\, Sandy\, Wet or Dry\, Rocky\, Hilly\, Ugly) \nNumerous Washes\, Water Crossings or Foot Bridges \n3 Queen/King of the Mountain segments \n3 Queen/King of the Dirt segments \n3 Queen/King of the Sprint segments \n7 Feed Zones \nWAFER – \nhttps://ridewithgps.com/routes/42003808 \n79-Miles/127-Kilometers \n~5\,600 Feet of Climbing \nSeveral Unroad sectors (the rest is really nice road) \n40% Unroad (Long\, Sandy\, Wet or Dry\, Rocky\, Hilly\, Ugly) \nNumerous Washes\, Water Crossings or Foot Bridges \n4 Feed Zones \nWANNA – \nhttps://ridewithgps.com/routes/42090863 \n37-Miles/60-Kilometers \n~3\,700 Feet of Climbing \n1 long Unroad sector (the rest is really nice road) \n25% Unroad (Long\, Sandy\, Wet or Dry\, Rocky\, Hilly\, Ugly) \nNumerous Washes\, Water Crossings or Foot Bridges \n2 Feed Zones

SUMMARY:LOVE OUR CITY 2024 Tucson Refugee HQ Bike Assembly Event
DESCRIPTION:Old Pueblo MTB has done a couple of these Bike Builds now\, and word has gotten out that we’ve been amazing.\n\nLast year 2023 & in 2022 we assembled a teams to put together 115 bikes that were donated by Jim Click\, The Conquistadors & El Tour De Tucson for a big city wide event getting 500 new bikes into the community for families in need. We had some of the best mechanics and helpful hands OPMTB has to offer who just killed the assembly in record time.\n\n\n\nThis time Tucson Refugee Ministry needs our help. They received a grant to get 100 Bikes they can give to Adult Refugees here in Tucson in their system\, much needed transportation. These Bikes will help these Refugees get back on their feet\, give them transportation to get to Jobs & Schooling.\n\nThis Saturday – March 2nd\, 2024 we’ll just be assembling half of them… or about 50 bikes. Based on our experience\, and with about 12-15 “mechanics” and the support help we’ve already lined up\, we expect that to go quickly.\n\nWe’re looking for 12-15 “Skilled” Bike assembly mechanics to help for a few hours. We’d love to have you on the team if you have some basic tools you can bring and want to be apart of assembling these bikes. Please speak up here if you’d like to be on the team again\, or for the first time.\n\nSECONDARY OPPORTUNITY\nALSO AVAILABLE TO HELP ::: we’ll be doing a “Flat Repair Clinic” at 1:00pm to teach some of these new bike owners how to fix a flat with the appropriate repair kits they are going to receive. If this is something you want to help with this would be from 1:00pm – 3:00pm.\n\nike build\nLUNCH IS INCLUDED !
