SUMMARY:The Tusayan Tussle - Arizona Endurance Series
DESCRIPTION:The Tusayan Tussle\n\nThe Grand Canyon Stagecoach Line is a true backcountry Arizona adventure\, starting in Tusayan just outside the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Choose between a 60-mile or 94-mile route\, combining remote Forest Service roads\, doubletrack and miles of the Arizona Trail through the high-country forests surrounding the Grand Canyon. \nThe 60-mile loop follows fun doubletrack to the historic Moqui Stage Stop before picking up the Arizona Trail for the ride back to Tusayan. It’s an epic route without requiring an epic-race résumé. \nWant the bigger day? The 94-mile route includes roughly 40 miles of nearly traffic-free Forest Service roads before returning on the Arizona Trail. Near the end\, riders reach Grandview Lookout\, where those willing to climb the tower earn spectacular views and a time bonus. Take a selfie at the top for proof. Afraid of heights? The climb is optional. \nLike other Arizona Endurance Series (AES) events\, this is a fully self-supported ride. Riders need to carry what they need and be prepared to filter water if necessary. This isn’t an organized tour with aid stations every few miles. Self-sufficiency is part of the adventure. \nRemote dirt roads\, the Arizona Trail\, high-country forest\, virtually no traffic and the Grand Canyon just down the road. If your idea of a good ride involves a little adventure and a lot of Arizona\, this belongs on the list. \nAugust 29\, 2026 | Tusayan\, Arizona\n60 Miles: 7:00 a.m.\n94 Miles: 6:00 a.m. \n \nRoute: \nThe Tussle will be a loop rather than the out and back. The route will be ridden in a counterclockwise fashion with the route consisting of 25 miles of scenic remote forest service roads\, 35 miles on the Arizona Trail and 1 mile of asphalt/concrete riding through Tusayan back to the finish. \n****Grandview Lookout will be on the route approximately 16 miles from the finish with a requirement to climb it. The views are worth the climb up. If you fear heights\, you don’t have to climb it. ******* Time bonus for the ones that climb it. Selfie pic for proof****** \nFully self-supported ride. Russell tank has water and can be filtered if needed. There will be NO water drop unless we have a volunteer drop and pick up at Russell Tank. Russell tank should have plenty of water for filtering with all the monsoon activity. \nTusayan_tussle_short_route \nTusayan_tussle_long_route \nPlease sign-up below with the link as well as commenting if you are interested in camping a 1-2 nights.

SUMMARY:Willcox Flyer Bike Ride
DESCRIPTION:14th Annual Willcox Flyer Bike Ride\nSaturday\, September 5\, 2026 | Willcox\, Arizona\nRide Start: 7:00 AM | 8\, 33 & 66 Mile Routes \nCome ride the wide-open roads and high-desert landscape of southeastern Arizona at the 14th Annual Willcox Flyer Bike Ride. \nStarting in downtown Willcox\, the Flyer is a fun\, welcoming community ride with distances for everyone from families and casual cyclists to riders looking for a longer challenge. Choose from 8\, 33 or 66 miles\, with staggered starts beginning at 7:00 AM. \nThis isn’t a timed race. Ride fast\, ride easy\, bring some friends and enjoy a morning on the bike. Of course\, that doesn’t stop some of the faster riders from pretending they aren’t racing! \nThe Willcox Flyer is also a ride with a purpose. Every dollar raised benefits Small Town\, Big Dreams\, a local 501(c)(3) working toward an ambitious goal: making post-secondary education accessible to every student graduating from Willcox High School. The organization currently provides scholarships to 23 students\, many of whom are the first generation in their families to pursue education beyond high school. \nRide Day\nThe 66-mile riders depart at 7:00 AM\, followed a few minutes later by the 33-mile group and then the 8-mile riders. The short ride has traditionally been led by hometown Olympian and Willcox favorite Mike Allen\, now 90 years old. \nThe routes are on roads that remain open to traffic. Police escorts are provided\, traffic is generally light\, and riders should follow all rules of the road. Riders should also use caution at aid stations\, turnarounds and railroad crossings. \nFully stocked aid stations along the routes provide hydration\, fruit\, snacks and plenty of fuel to keep riders going. SAG support and bicycle mechanics are also available to help with mechanical problems or riders who need assistance getting back. \nAt the finish\, stick around for cold drinks\, chocolate milk\, watermelon\, snacks and some well-earned post-ride relaxation. \nPacket Pickup & Registration\nFriday | 4:00–7:00 PM\nKeeling Schaefer Vineyard Tasting Room\n154 N. Railroad Ave.\, Willcox \nSaturday | 6:00–6:45 AM\nRailroad Avenue Park\n100 S. Railroad Ave.\, Willcox \nDigital check-in is available using your QR code or name. Don’t forget to pick up your Willcox Flyer T-shirt and water bottle. \nParking\nStreet parking is available throughout the area\, along with a large dirt lot east of Railroad Avenue Park. Please pay attention to restricted areas and avoid blocking business gates or driveways. \nRider Support\nSAG wagons will be on the course throughout the ride for anyone who needs assistance. Sabino Cycles and Specialized will also provide mechanical support. \nRide for Something Bigger\nThe Willcox Flyer is possible because of its riders\, volunteers\, sponsors and the Willcox community. \nCome for the ride. Enjoy southeastern Arizona. Experience a great small-town cycling event. And know that your registration is helping a local student pursue a bigger dream. \nEvery rider matters. Every mile helps. And at the Willcox Flyer\, everyone is a winner.

SUMMARY:Arizona Track Championships
DESCRIPTION:For the first time\, the Arizona Track Championships are coming to the new Tucson Velodrome\, September 12–13\, 2026. This is a pretty big deal for Arizona cycling. After years of Arizona riders having to travel to California to compete for track state championships\, we finally have a velodrome of our own and a championship weekend right here in Tucson. \nThe two-day event will showcase just about everything that makes track racing so much fun to watch and race. Saturday is all about speed against the clock\, with the Flying 200\, 500m and 1km time trials\, individual pursuits from 2km to 4km\, and Team Time Trials. Sunday brings riders together for Scratch Races for men\, women\, masters and juniors\, followed by the Team Sprint. Categories range from juniors as young as nine through masters racers 75+\, giving generations of Arizona cyclists an opportunity to race on their home track. \nRacing starts at 7:00 a.m. both days\, with the track open for warm-up and rider check-in from 6:00–7:00 a.m. Arizona championship eligibility requires Arizona residency and a current annual USA Cycling license. Races are $15 each\, with online registration required. \nMore than another race weekend\, this feels like a milestone for cycling in Arizona. We finally have a velodrome\, and now we finally get to host our own state track championships at home. Even if you have never raced on a track\, this is a great weekend to come out\, cheer on Arizona’s riders and experience an entirely different kind of bicycle racing.

SUMMARY:The Pinewood Showdown
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE RACE\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Pinewood Showdown is Zia Rides’ answer to the question riders had been asking for years: When are you going to put on a gravel event? They waited until they found a location worthy of it\, and the White Mountains of Arizona certainly qualify. \nBased at scenic Wilderness Ranch outside Pinetop-Lakeside and Show Low\, the event sends riders onto the beautiful dirt and gravel roads of Northern Arizona. Choose from approximately 25\, 45\, or 80 miles\, making this a weekend that works for newer gravel riders as well as those looking for a serious day in the saddle. Gravel bikes and mountain bikes are both welcome. \nThis is also much more than showing up\, riding\, and driving home. Courses are well marked with fully supported aid stations\, while Wilderness Ranch becomes the weekend gathering place with camping\, live music at the pavilion\, and plenty of opportunities to hang out with other riders\, friends\, and family. \nBest of all\, you’re escaping the desert heat for a weekend of bikes\, dirt roads\, pine trees\, cool mountain air\, and some of the prettiest country in Arizona. \nA portion of the proceeds also stays in the White Mountains\, benefiting Re in Pinetop. \nGreat gravel. Pine forests. Live music. Camping. Three distances. One very good excuse to spend a weekend riding bikes in Arizona’s White Mountains.

SUMMARY:Mt. Graham- State Hill Climb Championships
DESCRIPTION:The Mt. Graham Hill Climb is one of Arizona’s classic tests on two wheels and the Arizona State Hill Climb Championship. Starting outside Safford\, the race heads straight up the Swift Trail into the Pinaleño Mountains\, trading Sonoran Desert for pine forest and cool mountain air as the road climbs higher and higher. \nAnd when we say climb\, we mean climb. The full course is roughly 20 miles with about 5\,700 feet of elevation gain\, making Mt. Graham one of the biggest sustained road climbs in Arizona. Shorter 10-mile categories are offered for some age and masters divisions. \nThis isn’t a ride where you’re wondering when the next hill starts. The hill is the ride. Pace yourself\, settle into a rhythm\, enjoy the changing landscape and try to remember to look around occasionally as you climb thousands of feet above the desert floor. \nFor racers\, there are Arizona State Championship titles on the line. For everyone else\, there is the satisfaction of reaching the top of one of the most formidable paved climbs in the Southwest. \n20 miles. 5\,700 feet of climbing. One very large mountain. \nSeptember 20\, 2026 | Safford\, Arizona\n47th Annual Mt. Graham Hill Climb

SUMMARY:Sonoran Shred XC
DESCRIPTION:The Arizona XC Championships come to Southern Arizona on Saturday\, September 26\, 2026\, with the Sonoran Shred at McKenzie Ranch Race Course in Vail. This purpose-built mountain bike venue sits within a 1\,700-acre Pima County natural open-space park\, with more than 99% of the property remaining natural desert. It was Southern Arizona’s first park built with a dedicated competitive mountain bike loop. \nMcKenzie Ranch is also a beautiful place to race. Sitting in the foothills of the southern Rincon Mountains\, the ranch lies in a transition zone between the Sonoran and Chihuahuan deserts\, creating a landscape a little different from what riders see closer to Tucson. The rolling grass-and-desert terrain includes mesquite\, acacia\, prickly pear\, cholla and stands of ocotillo that can put on a spectacular show when conditions bring them into bloom. Keep your eyes open beyond the racers\, too. This is wild desert country\, where birds\, rabbits and other desert wildlife are part of the surroundings. \nThe main XC race uses the Lozen Loop\, a smooth and fast 6.6-mile lap with approximately 494 feet of climbing. Rather than being dominated by highly technical rock features\, McKenzie Ranch is known for flowing singletrack\, rolling terrain\, gradual climbs\, fast descents and sweeping turns. The XCC short-track race uses a compact 2.1-mile combination of Lozen Link and Lozen Loop\, creating an even faster style of racing. \nThis is also a great race for spectators. Unlike many mountain bike races where riders disappear into the mountains for long stretches\, the compact\, looping nature of McKenzie Ranch gives spectators opportunities to see racers multiple times. Come out\, walk around\, find a good viewing spot\, cheer loudly and bring a cowbell. The short-track racing should be especially fun to watch\, with riders coming through frequently and positions changing quickly. \nWhether you’re racing for an Arizona championship or just coming out to watch\, the Sonoran Shred is a chance to experience competitive mountain biking in a venue built specifically for it\, surrounded by the open desert and mountain views that make riding in Southern Arizona special. \nxc \n
