The rolling hills offer unparalleled vistas of several mountain ranges\, cattle country\, and the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Sanctuary. Aravaca is an eclectic small town\, population of 600\, made up of artists\, retirees\, former hippies\, ranchers\, and folks just wanting to live off the grid. \nWe will stop halfway at the Aravaca Mercantile store\, where water and food can be purchased. We will then make our way to some picnic tables at the entrance to the Sanctuary just down the road. \nAmado is about 35 minutes south of Tucson and although we have an early start\, it is well worth the drive. \nParticipation rules:\nYour GABA membership must be current. Bring food & fluids for 4 hours. Helmets must be worn at all times while riding. No ear buds. This ride is unsupported. DESCRIPTION:Details\n\n\nRide Description:\nWe will travel from Sonoita on a combination of pavement and singletrack to the eclectic town of Patagonia alongside the Patagonia Mountains. After climbing along Harshaw Creek we will cross the stunning San Rafael Valley\, and climb over rugged Canelo Pass. \nWe will return on hilly pavement through “The Grasslands” to the Vaughn Loop and Papago Springs Rd. When we finally hit pavement we will roll downhill three miles into Sonoita. The last ten miles of this route are new. \nIn total this route is over 33 miles of gravel\, 22 miles of pavement\, and 3\,000 ft. of climbing. It is challenging and requires intermediate+ skills. \nPLEASE READ: This ride is NOT suitable for mountain bikes due significant road riding. Gravel bikes only please. It is also not suitable for Novice gravel riders. We will be riding singletrack\, doubletrack\, dirt roads\, and may even bushwack a short section. \nBathrooms are available in the Sonoita Mercantile Country Store at the start\, and at Ovens of Patagonia in Patagonia. \nNotes:\nRide Type: Social/Re-group.\nPace: 12 mph on gravel\, 15 mph on pavement.\nTerrain: 12 miles downhill to Patagonia\, long uphill to Canelo Pass\, then rolling pavement back to Sonoita.\nTotal Elevation Gain: 3\,000 ft.\nTraffic: light with the exception of Rt. 82. It is gradually uphill going out and gradually downhill coming back. \nThis ride can be ridden in small groups or individually. It is not a “regroup” ride. Approximately 40% will be on the loop. \nBegin: St. Philips Plaza South parking lot \nEnd: Feel free to join us at Ren’s Coffeehouse after the ride.\nNOTE: There have been some bicycle thefts recently at Ren’s so keep your bicycle at your elbow or lock it up while you have coffee. \nWater/Bathroom Breaks:\n9 miles – 1161 W Silverlake Rd (short stop)\n16.6 miles – Feliz Paseos Park (long stop)\n26 miles – Rillito Park at Camino De La Tierra (but only if needed) \nPlease arrive 15 minutes early to sign in. DESCRIPTION:Details\n\n\nRide Description:\nThis ride takes us from Pousada Java in Green Valley to the Tubac Deli which offers some of the best baked goods in southern Arizona. We will mostly be using frontage roads and will make last minute modifications to accommodate the ever changing Border Patrol checkpoints. \nThere will be time in Tubac to wader around and take in some of the sights. Upon our return to Green Valley we can have lunch on the patio of Pousada Java. Normally we have a tailwind on the return. Fingers crossed! \nAs a GABA trainibb ride\, the only regrouping will be at the Tubac Deli. \nAdditonal Notes:\nRide Type: Training\nPace: Final rolling average 15-17 mph.\nTerrain: Just gradual hills\nTotal Elevation Gain: 1500 ft.\nTraffic: Frontage roads with some vehicles moving at up to 60 mph.\nStart Time: Arrive by 7:45 AM for sign-in and route rap.
