SUMMARY:Sonoran Shred XC
DESCRIPTION:The Arizona XC Championships come to Southern Arizona on Saturday\, September 26\, 2026\, with the Sonoran Shred at McKenzie Ranch Race Course in Vail. This purpose-built mountain bike venue sits within a 1\,700-acre Pima County natural open-space park\, with more than 99% of the property remaining natural desert. It was Southern Arizona’s first park built with a dedicated competitive mountain bike loop. \nMcKenzie Ranch is also a beautiful place to race. Sitting in the foothills of the southern Rincon Mountains\, the ranch lies in a transition zone between the Sonoran and Chihuahuan deserts\, creating a landscape a little different from what riders see closer to Tucson. The rolling grass-and-desert terrain includes mesquite\, acacia\, prickly pear\, cholla and stands of ocotillo that can put on a spectacular show when conditions bring them into bloom. Keep your eyes open beyond the racers\, too. This is wild desert country\, where birds\, rabbits and other desert wildlife are part of the surroundings. \nThe main XC race uses the Lozen Loop\, a smooth and fast 6.6-mile lap with approximately 494 feet of climbing. Rather than being dominated by highly technical rock features\, McKenzie Ranch is known for flowing singletrack\, rolling terrain\, gradual climbs\, fast descents and sweeping turns. The XCC short-track race uses a compact 2.1-mile combination of Lozen Link and Lozen Loop\, creating an even faster style of racing. \nThis is also a great race for spectators. Unlike many mountain bike races where riders disappear into the mountains for long stretches\, the compact\, looping nature of McKenzie Ranch gives spectators opportunities to see racers multiple times. Come out\, walk around\, find a good viewing spot\, cheer loudly and bring a cowbell. The short-track racing should be especially fun to watch\, with riders coming through frequently and positions changing quickly. \nWhether you’re racing for an Arizona championship or just coming out to watch\, the Sonoran Shred is a chance to experience competitive mountain biking in a venue built specifically for it\, surrounded by the open desert and mountain views that make riding in Southern Arizona special. \nxc \n

SUMMARY:Coconino Stage Bikepack - Arizona Endurance Series
DESCRIPTION:Coconino Stage Bikepack\n\n \nWhen:\nOctober 10-13\, 2025 \nWhere:\nWe will be meeting on Friday\, October 10-13\, 2024 at 7:00am in Flagstaff\, downtown at ‘The Place’ (21 S Milton Rd). We eat a big greasy breakfast\, chat a bit and then we ride! The actual starting time for the first stage (and every stage) is open-ended. \nWhat:\nThe 250-mile route has about 40-50% singletrack\, some of which is pretty darn technical\, and about 33k of climbing. The route is: Flagstaff-Sedona-Mingus Mountain-Williams-Flagstaff. Those that have never ridden in this area\, you are in for a treat! \nLive tracking link will be listed at: http://trackleaders.com \nCarrying a SPOT tracker is optional. You can add your own SPOT/InReach to the tracking map at the following link (email info@trackleaders.com to inquire about a rental device): \nhttps://form.jotformpro.com/trackleaders/long-trail \nThe (old) forum:\nhttp://www.bikepacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=10860.0 \nGPX: GPS and Cue Sheets can all be found here.  The file CLR22_v2_10k_simplified.gpx is the latest version of the route. The 2013 files are current for the cue sheets and waypoints. \nFor help uploading the track to your GPS see TopoFusion’s uploading tutorial. \nPlease note: it is very important that you upload both the GPS track (line) AND the waypoint file. The waypoints define where stages start and end\, as well as help everyone regroup at the end of each stage. \nBikepacking.net route description \nSelf Supported Stage Bikepacking \nThe Coconino 250 is a self supported stage bikepack. The usual rules for self-supported bikepacking apply (see AZT 300\, CTR for examples)\, with one exception: there are locations on the route where stopping is allowed and as long as you are there\, the ride clock is not ticking. \nThis makes the event into a quasi-stage ride. Riders may ride from one stopping location to another\, then rest the night before the next ‘stage.’ However\, stopping is not required at any of the points. The option of a non-stop ride is still open. \nThere are 4 stages\, with 3 “stage stop” locations. The first two are camp sites\, with no water or other services available (but fantastic views!). The third is the town of Williams\, where most racers opt to share motel rooms. You can also camp on nearby national forest\, if desired. \nEach rider’s time will be computed as = the total time on course minus the total time spent in designated stopping locations. Because of this it is important that you carefully log your time in and time out. Bring a piece of paper to do this\, and if you can collect a GPS track for backup\, even better. \nThe idea is to promote camaraderie\, lessen the physical ‘impact’ on participants\, and also experiment with a new format. \nThe stage stops are marked as waypoints in the course GPX file and also denoted in RED on the cue sheets. \nPictures \nYou can drool over some pictures on Scott’s website: http://www.topofusion.com/diary/2009/06/29/coco-ming-o-bob/ \nPlease use the signup form below\, and post in the bikepacking.net forum if you plan on attending. \nCLICK HERE FOR RESULTS\nComments\, suggestions\, heckling can all be made below. Or on the forum.

SUMMARY:Arizona Trail Race
DESCRIPTION:Racing the Arizona Trail\n\n\n\n\n\nThe AZT300 & AZT800 will start concurrently at border monument 103\, the rider limit is 60 total riders. \nPlease check the Announcements page https://azt300-800.com/announcements/ for any last minute updates\, registration & important information. \nSuggested Start Date: Thursday October 16th\, 2025. *ITTs are always encouraged!!\n(3rd Thursday in October each year) *Registration opens one month prior to the Grand Depart\nChoose your poison: 300 miles / 800 miles\n800 Start: 6:00am Mexican Border monument 103.\n300 Start: 6:00am Mexican Border monument 103.\nRider limit: 60 people\, combined\, in both events\nNo entry fee\, no prizes\, absolutely no support \n\nTiger Mine trailhead near Oracle\n\nThe Arizona Trail Race is an unofficial challenge that takes place every autumn on the cross state Arizona Trail. Two distances are available. The Arizona Trail 300 is a 300 mile event that has been held every April since 2006. The Arizona Trail Race 800 is the complete traversal (Mexico->Utah) and was offered for the first time in 2010 as the AZTR750. Both events are run concurrently\, starting on the same day\, same time from border monument 103. \nThis is not an organized or sanctioned event in any way. It’s simply a group of friends out to ride their bikes on the same route at the same time. We’ll probably compare times afterwards\, but more importantly\, we’ll compare experiences — the highs and lows the trail and mountains offered us. \nAll we provide is a route\, a suggested start time(*) and tabulation of results. Period. There is no race organization\, no checkpoints\, no support system\, nothing. You are completely on your own\, just as you would be if you chose to ride the Arizona Trail\, or any other trail\, on any other day. \n(*) Anyone is welcome to ride the route at any time. We provide a suggested start date if you want others to ride with/against. ITTs (individual time trials) are encouraged and will be ranked with that year’s results. \nIf you want to be included in the “results” you need to follow the rules of self-supported travel set on the rules page\, ITT riders included. This means things like support crews and water caches are not allowed. This is done in order to ensure a level playing field. \nMartinez Canyon\nSPOT Tracking\nEach year the race is tracked by trackleaders.com\, providing a live map\, elevation profile and other stats that can be used to follow along. Carrying a SPOT and being tracked by trackleaders is not mandatory but encouraged. \nSupport the Trail\nThere is no entry fee\, and no registration\, but all racers are strongly encouraged to join the Arizona Trail Association. Please help support the organization that has worked so hard to construct\, maintain and promote this amazing trail across the state. \nMembership is only $35. To join\, go here: \nhttp://www.aztrail.org/membership/join.html \nContact\nPlease consider posting your questions to bikepacking.net’s Ultra Forum. There is a yearly forum thread there with common questions asked and answered. There’s a helpful community of AZT riders that can help\, and that way your questions (and answers) can help others with the same questions. Also the AZTR Director will post updates and last minute info there in the weeks leading up to the start. \nThere is a private Facebook Page that has tons of info. Check them out on FB Arizona Trail Race (mtb) \nQuestions?? Start here: AZTR FAQ & ATA’s Mountain Biking resource \nJohn Schilling – azt300.750@gmail.com

SUMMARY:THE SPIRIT WORLD 100
DESCRIPTION:Dear gravel riders\, soul surfers & anyone who uses the bike to escape time…  \nWe are Heidi Rentz & Zander Ault \nWe’re co-creators\, gravel cyclists\, chefs & party animals. We’re so freaking excited to see you in Patagonia\, Arizona for a gravel road race that has inspired every aspect of our lives.   \nThe Spirit World 100 is a down home gravel road expedition that has been in creation for 4 years. We’ve been exploring the outer reaches of our abilities to be spirited entrepreneurs in an attempt to bring something from another universe to the event scene. Our main goal is to connect more people through our contagious love for riding bikes\, cooking and throwing a mean party. Now\, we just need all you special humans to bring your creative and powerful energy to the desert southwest.   \nThe Spirit World 100 and 50-mile course options are 2 of our most coveted and adored gravel routes in southern Arizona. Each course option is a reflection of the thousands of hours we’ve spent soaring through the San Rafael Valley since 2015. In order to showcase one of the Nations best remote and purely quiet destinations\, we have partnered with the Town of Patagonia to invite riders and their families to the high desert. Obsessed with the landscape of the borderlands region\, we’ve studied the maps of this area and are working closely with regional government\, land management and private entities to make this place more accessible for the entire gravel cycling community. We want to help redefine the future of outdoor recreational tourism in the greater Tucson and borderlands region of The Copper State and The Spirit World 100 will be a key player in this mission.    \nIf we said this wasn’t a race\, we’d just sound ridiculous. Any time you place 100’s of riders on the start line\, it’s a race! This race is a place to find the answer to why challenging ourselves in unfamiliar conditions is so sought after. We’re only human and we were put on this earth to move\, sweat\, be affected and feel the power of confidence that our raw and natural surroundings can instill. The Spirit World 100 is a celebration of exactly what you’re searching for every time you jump on your bike. You’re welcomed in\, wholeheartedly.  \nTucson\, Arizona is our home. When we aren’t there\, we’re hosting private gravel and road cycling camps around the globe. For sometime now\, we’ve wanted to create an event that everybody felt comfortable committing to. Cycling camps aren’t for everybody. They may never meet your personal schedule or provide enough of what you’re looking for in a vacation. The Spirit World 100 has been designed to deliver fun\, challenge and growth oriented human interaction over the course of 4 days. We couldn’t be more excited to show you Patagonia\, Arizona and the San Rafael Valley. See you in The Spirit World! \nTeeth to the wind\,

This is about 60 miles east of Phoenix and about 5 miles west of Superior. If you pass the Boyce Thompson Arboretum\, you’ve missed the trailhead turnoff. You can get directions to the start here. \nThe trailhead has pit toilets\, but no water. Also no trash receptacles – pack it in\, pack it out. \nCamping is NOT allowed at the trailhead. There are however\,  a bunch of places to primitive camp beside the road that leads to the trailhead. \nWhat:\nThe Punisher will once again be split into 3 different lengths so that you can choose the amount of punishment you deserve. Make sure you review the GPS files. \nThe C ride will be the shortest AES ride ever. A measly 22 miles and about 2300 feet of climbing. In place of FR4\, you’ll get to ride new trails in Arnett Canyon. The route will climb on dirt roads part of the way up Montana Mountain. The descent back down will be on the Arizona Trail back to the Picketpost trailhead. Easy peasy. \nThe B ride is heading south this year. It is actually a subset of one of the previous year’s A route – without crossing the Gila River. You will head south on the Arizona Trail to FR4\, then turn south on FR4 (it is not closed in this area). You’ll climb up on the ever lovely Telegraph Canyon road\, then down\, past Ajax Mine to Box Canyon. There will be a hard left to get you over to Martinez Canyon. After traversing the “brass knuckles” you’ll end up at the Gila River not far from the Arizona Trail. Filter water at the river\, then head north to the AZT – all the way back to Picket Post. \nThe B ride has an opportunity for a time bonus. You’ll notice a little additional part of the route in Box Canyon. This goes to a section where the canyon gets very narrow – really cool to see. This is an out and back of about 3.75 miles. Do this and take a selfie. Your selfie\, along with your GPS track\, will get you an hour deducted from overall time. \nThe A ride (aka: The Pulverizer) will be the same stroll in the park as last year. You’ll begin by heading south on AZT down to the Gila River. You’ll cross the river (good chance to filter water) and start climbing to Florence-Kelvin Highway. You’ll then bomb down that dirt road all the way to Kelvin Bridge. From there it is AZT all the way back to the start. \nREAD THIS IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT DOING THE A RIDE:\nThe A ride is a seriously difficult ride. It is only for very experienced and capable back country endurance cyclists.  One of your sources of water is the Gila River – and that needs to be filtered. If you cannot meet the following criteria\, don’t even bother: \n1. You must have a GPS and know how to use it. There are no trail signs and it will be very easy to get lost.\n3. You need to be prepared to be on your bike for 10-15 hours or more. Some VERY fast folks have done this in 10 hours. Expect it to take longer for most everyone else. \n4. You must have lights and be comfortable with riding at night in challenging terrain.\nWater:\nIn a race of this length and remoteness\, water is a concern. Bring as much as you can! We’ve done some scouting and found some possible and some dependable water sources. Water sources are marked (as waypoints) on the GPS files. \nRoute:\nIt is HIGHLY recommended that you bring\, and know how to use\, a GPS for this race. The Legends of Superior section has lots of areas where it is easy to miss the trail and get off course. Using a GPS and paying attention are the best ways to stay on course and not get lost. GPS files for all three courses can be obtained at the links below.\nPPP_C_route\nPPP_B_route(punisher)\nPPP_A_route(pulverizer)

DESCRIPTION:Frenzy Hills Rides is a choose-your-own-adventure day on two wheels at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in Fountain Hills. With mountain bike and gravel distances ranging from 8 miles all the way to 100 miles\, there really is an option for almost every kind of rider. \nThe courses roll through classic Sonoran Desert terrain using portions of Escondido\, Pemberton and the Long Loop trails\, with saguaros\, wide-open desert and some of the Valley’s most recognizable mountain views as the backdrop. Riders looking for an endurance challenge can take on the 100 or 50-mile races\, while 25\, 15 and 8-mile options make the event accessible to riders who aren’t interested in spending their entire day in the saddle. \nFrenzy also includes a 9-hour relay\, junior races and a 25-mile Adaptive MTB race\, making this much more than an event for hardcore endurance racers. \nPrefer skinny-ish tires and drop bars? The Frenzy Gravel Grinder takes advantage of the smoother\, less technical portions of McDowell Mountain Park\, with 25\, 50 and 100-mile gravel options\, along with duo and quad relay categories. \nMountain bike or gravel. SUMMARY:Dawn to Dusk Arizona
DESCRIPTION:Dawn to Dusk Arizona is 12 hours of mountain biking on some of the most enjoyable desert singletrack in the Phoenix area. Held at McDowell Mountain Regional Park outside Scottsdale\, the race uses much of the Pemberton Trail system on a 16+ mile loop with less than 1\,000 feet of climbing per lap. \nThe course is approachable enough for newer mountain bikers but still plenty of fun for experienced racers. Each lap begins with a gradual climb before working through Cinch\, Scenic and Pemberton Trails\, then dropping onto Bluff and Granite and eventually returning to the Four Peaks Staging Area. The reward is a fast\, fun finish and expansive views of the Sonoran Desert throughout the course. \nWhat makes Dawn to Dusk especially appealing is that you can decide just how much suffering you want. Race it solo for the full 12 hours\, grab a partner and race as a duo\, or put together a team of three or four and turn it into an all-day mountain bike party. There are junior\, age-group\, single-speed\, male\, female and coed categories\, along with a corporate division for teams of up to seven riders. \nWhether you’re chasing laps\, trying your first endurance mountain bike race\, or spending the day trading laps with friends\, Dawn to Dusk combines a great course\, beautiful desert scenery and the camaraderie that makes endurance mountain bike events so much fun.
