SUMMARY:Sky Island Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Sky Island Tour is a one-day bicycle tour through the beautiful high-desert landscapes and mountain ranges of Cochise County. Starting and finishing in Sierra Vista\, each route takes riders into Arizona’s spectacular Sky Islands\, where isolated mountain ranges rise dramatically above the surrounding desert grasslands. \nThis is a tour rather than a race\, welcoming traditional bicycles\, e-bikes\, recumbents\, handcycles\, trikes and ElliptiGOs. With multiple loop routes\, riders can choose the distance and challenge that works for them while experiencing a part of Southern Arizona that is absolutely worth exploring by bicycle. \nAfter the ride\, everyone returns to the Mall at Sierra Vista for lunch\, music and a chance to relax and visit with other cyclists. Registration includes an event T-shirt\, route map and goodie bag. \nPerhaps the best reason to ride is the cause behind it. The Sky Island Tour is presented by the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Southeastern Arizona (NAMI SEAZ)\, with 100% of event proceeds supporting the organization and its work in Southeastern Arizona. \nBeautiful roads\, incredible Sky Island scenery\, a welcoming cycling community and a ride that supports an important local cause. This is a great excuse to put Cochise County on your cycling calendar. \nOctober 3\, 2026 | Sierra Vista\, Arizona \n

SUMMARY:The Shootout
DESCRIPTION:The Shootout \nThe shootout is the Saturday morning group ride. The ride has groups of about 20 riders in the summer and well over 100 riders in the winter and spring. The terrain is fast and rolling with two sprints and a gas station stop about halfway through. The total distance is just over 70 miles. If you want to take in the same route at a slower pace\, catch the “scootout” or “old man shootout” leaving from the same starting location 15 minutes before the fast ride. \nThe Shootout is one of the best group bike rides in the country according to Bicycling Magazine. It is common to have pro cyclists showing up for this ride and it can be fast. \nCo-founded by Ralph Philips\, the owner of Fair Wheel Bikes\, and University of Arizona student Bob Cook\, an Olympic team member. It is one of the oldest and must do\, bucket list group rides in North America. \nRide times change according to the seasons.   I try an update them here\, but check out  Click Here for Fair Wheels for the latest info \nFair Wheel Bikes is home to some of the top group rides in the country. Fast rides are held every Tuesday and Saturday mornings. In the spring and fall\, both rides are regularly attended by some of the top professional riders from the US and around the world.
If you’re looking for extra miles and some real climbing\, watch for the turnoff to Madera Canyon on Duval Mine Road. SUMMARY:El Grupo Fall Fondo
DESCRIPTION:The El Grupo Fall Fondo is more than a bike ride. It is a celebration of El Grupo Youth Cycling and one of the best opportunities of the year to ride with and support the next generation of Tucson cyclists. \nChoose from 35\, 50\, or 75-mile routes through Tucson\, then return to the El Grupo Clubhouse for the real heart of the event: food\, drinks\, music\, an auction\, and a chance to hang out with El Grupo riders\, coaches\, families\, and supporters. \nThis is a fundraiser\, not a race. Proceeds support El Grupo Youth Cycling and its work using bicycles to help young people build confidence\, skills\, friendships\, and independence while making cycling accessible regardless of a family’s ability to pay. \nIf you love Tucson’s cycling community\, this is an important one to support. Come for a great ride and leave knowing your miles are helping put more Tucson kids on bikes. \nhttps://www.kgun9.com/news/community-inspired-journalism/midtown-news/el-grupo-youth-cycling-hosts-fall-fondo-fundraiser-in-midtown?fbclid=IwY2xjawTvQGdwZG9mBWV4dG4DYWVtAjExAHNydGMGYXBwX2lkEDIyMjAzOTE3ODgyMDA4OTIAAR5RC3XawhwaAbeJgFvQotHIartRmxKMoXkffVR1Y5p3adGPPkFjRDPicArmuQ_aem_-RYZ56duzC6z0D-bEo-jyw \n  \n
