SUMMARY:The Shootout
DESCRIPTION:The Shootout \nThe shootout is the Saturday morning group ride. The ride has groups of about 20 riders in the summer and well over 100 riders in the winter and spring. The terrain is fast and rolling with two sprints and a gas station stop about halfway through. The total distance is just over 70 miles. If you’re looking for extra miles and some real climbing\, watch for the turnoff to Madera Canyon on Duval Mine Road. If you want to take in the same route at a slower pace\, catch the “scootout” or “old man shootout” leaving from the same starting location 15 minutes before the fast ride. \nThe Shootout is one of the best group bike rides in the country according to Bicycling Magazine. It is common to have pro cyclists showing up for this ride and it can be fast. \nCo-founded by Ralph Philips\, the owner of Fair Wheel Bikes\, and University of Arizona student Bob Cook\, an Olympic team member. SUMMARY:Camp Wood Roundup Gravel Ride
DESCRIPTION:Camp Wood Road\nWhen exiting the Bar-Triangle Ranch onto Williamson Valley Road\, the first mile and a half will be a neutral roll-out. The race will begin once the pavement ends and you turn left onto Camp Wood Road. This is a wide open gravel road that gradually slopes upwards before reaching a 7-mile\, 1000-foot climb at approximately 10 miles into the loop. Around the 14-mile mark\, the road will top out\, followed by a sweeping descent towards Walnut Creek Rd. \nphoto credit: Dirty Freehub \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWalnut Creek Road\nAt 15.5 miles\, riders turn right onto Walnut Creek Road (FR 95)\, a rustic Jeep road. It has many twists and turns and crosses several streams (dry and/or wet). The road mostly goes downhill\, with some steep parts. There are some short “kickers” with inclines as steep as 14%. Eventually\, you will reach Williamson Valley Road. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWilliamson Valley Road\n\n\n\n\n\nBack on a smooth gravel road\, Williamson Valley Road runs to the north. At a bit past 28 miles\, you’ll see a steel-truss bridge that appears misplaced in this remote landscape. Once a smaller part of a grand seven-span bridge that succumbed to floods in 1916\, it now stands here\, relocated and rebuilt by the AZ Highway Department in 1936. DESCRIPTION:Bike Polo on The University of Arizona Mall between Cherry and Campbell. \nCycle polo\, bicycle polo\, or bike polo (polo-vélo in French; Radpolo in German) is a team sport similar to traditional polo\, except that iron horses  are used instead of horses. Great for improving bike handling skills. \nTypically\, there are extra mallets if you want to come out and play.  It is recommended to get a front wheel that is designed so a mallet wont get in the spokes.  Often the best material for this is political signs zip ties together. \nVery social group with a high chance of post ride beverages.

SUMMARY:Karen Hornbostel Memorial Time Trial
DESCRIPTION:Since 1991\, the KHMTT has taken place on Wednesday evenings in Cherry Creek State Park in early spring. \nThe weather is a bit unpredictable (this is Colorado!)\, but that is what makes the KHMTT unique and challenging! \nThe course begins at the edge of the Cherry Creek Reservoir\, winds through the wetlands southeast of the reservoir\, and crosses back and forth the small creeks that supply the water for the reservoir. \nThe KHMTT series is a fundraiser for the Cancer Fitness Institute in memory of Karen Hornbostel\, and Bicycle Colorado. \nKaren Hornbostel was a four-time masters national road champion who battled metastatic breast cancer for over 13 years\, yet courageously pioneered a fitness program for cancer patients that started what is today the Cancer Fitness Institute. Her work is still making a difference today in the quality of the lives of thousands of cancer survivors. \nBicycle Colorado envisions a Colorado where riding a bicycle is always safe and convenient for everyone\, where bicycling is the top choice for recreation and everyday trips\, and where the benefits of bicycling are experienced and valued by all people in our state. \nThe COBRAS and the KHMTT are proud to be able to contribute to these worthwhile organizations.

Through teamwork\, strength and community\, VeloVets aids in an experience that leads to  a more active life through cycling while improving overall quality of life. \nAll are welcome\, regardless of ability\, to join us at our Tuesday ride. Our Tuesday rides have expanded so much\, and we are welcoming so many more. We believe everyone can experience the joy that comes from pedaling or handling (the use of hand-cycle) themselves through the air and breaking a sweat (or not!) while spending time with friends\, their community\, and family. We feel that all of this contributes to a feeling of well-being and success.

The pace is high and staying with the front group is extremely difficult\, but there are always people to ride with if you end up off the back. \nThe Route takes you from The University Of Arizona over the Back side of the Tucson Mountains through McCain Loop and over Gates Pass and back to the U. DESCRIPTION:Build-A-Bike Class\n\n\n\nEver wonder what makes a bike roll\, turn\, and stop? Over 5 sessions\, learn how to properly disassemble\, clean and completely rebuild a bicycle. In pairs\, students take apart and rebuild a BICAS project bicycle. Learn to rebuild bearing systems\, replace cables and housing for brakes and shifters\, install chains and properly adjust derailleurs. \nThis is a beginner-intermediate class. Recommended age for the class is 16 and up. For younger students\, check out our Youth Earn-a-Bike. \n*Students can pay 50% of the registration fee with Work Trade credit. Work Trade is earned at BICAS during normal open hours. Register in-person at the front desk. SUMMARY:The Shootout
DESCRIPTION:The Shootout \nThe shootout is the Saturday morning group ride. The ride has groups of about 20 riders in the summer and well over 100 riders in the winter and spring. The terrain is fast and rolling with two sprints and a gas station stop about halfway through. The total distance is just over 70 miles. If you’re looking for extra miles and some real climbing\, watch for the turnoff to Madera Canyon on Duval Mine Road. If you want to take in the same route at a slower pace\, catch the “scootout” or “old man shootout” leaving from the same starting location 15 minutes before the fast ride. \nThe Shootout is one of the best group bike rides in the country according to Bicycling Magazine. It is common to have pro cyclists showing up for this ride and it can be fast. \nCo-founded by Ralph Philips\, the owner of Fair Wheel Bikes\, and University of Arizona student Bob Cook\, an Olympic team member. Fast rides are held every Tuesday and Saturday mornings. In the spring and fall\, both rides are regularly attended by some of the top professional riders from the US and around the world.
