SUMMARY:Ride the Arizona Divide
DESCRIPTION:CLICK HERE FOR INTERACTIVE MAP \nFor those interested a group of individuals will be riding the 450 mile Ride the Arizona Divide route starting September 23rd. Why 9/23? It’s  simply the best time of the year to ride the White Mountains and Northeast Arizona! The are no entry fees or registration. The route uses public roads\, anyone can join in. This is not an organized or sanctioned event in any way. Each rider is responsible for their navigation and well being. We will be following the current route posted on this page.  For those that want to start at the same time meet at Tall Timbers Park in the community of Heber AZ at 6:00AM on September 23rd. Do not leave your vehicle at the park. \nIf you own a tracking device (e.g.\, SPOT\, Garmin InReach) and would like friends and relatives to view your progress or have a record of your ride you can register your device with the Trackleaders service. More info can be found on their website: http://trackleaders.com/ They are not affiliated with us\, AZ Gravel Rides or Ride Across Arizona. \nAll updates for the route will be posted here and here only! No emails\, texts\, FB messages or Instagram messages. If you have anything you would like to share (water sources\, camp spots\, etc.) please forward them on to us and we’ll get them shared here. \nWe view RAD as a long\, hard unofficial ultra endurance cycling challenge that tests our perseverance\, self sufficiency and competence. It’s also a fantastic workout! The idea behind the Grand Depart type of start is to be able to have a like minded group of individuals on the route at the same time to boost camaraderie and safety. However\, be advised\, this is not a “group” ride. You will be on your own most of the time but might be lucky enough to encounter another rider here and there. It’s that simple. Ride as far as you can as fast as you can and above all try to remain positive and have fun. \nUniversally Accepted Rider Etiquette:\nGeneral:\n– Complete the entire route under your own power.\n– LEAVE NO TRACE.  If you carry it in\, carry it out.  The goal is to keep the area we are rolling through better than we found it.\n– Follow all traffic laws. You must use lights when riding at night on any public road.\n– Unless you can actually see another rider coming behind you\, always close a gate you open\n– No trespassing. Please respect private property. \nPopular ways to ride the RAD course and accepted definitions from other similar rides:\nSelf-supported Bikepacking (example: Tour Divide)\nSolo Riders: \n– No support crews or caches of any kind.\n– No motorized transport along the route.\n– Unplanned support from a fellow rider is allowed.\n– Gas stations\, restaurants\, hotels\, campgrounds\, and any other commercial services along the route are fair game as long as they are not pre-arranged.\n– If your bike breaks and you wish to continue the ride\, you must hike\, walk or crawl to the next town to get it repaired. Once fixed\, you must return\, under your own power\, to the exact spot you left the route. This is a completely self-powered ride. If you get in a  motorized vehicle\, your ride is over (you may switch to the supported category**).\n– You may ride with other people\, but drafting is not allowed. \nDuo Riders (same as above except):\n– You and your partner may share resources.\n– You and your partner should stay together for the duration of the ride.\n– Drafting off your partner is allowed. \nSupported (example: RAAM)\nSolo Riders:\n– Support vehicles allowed to follow along and provide assistance (high clearance vehicle required\, 4wd highly recommended).*\n– Any number of bicycles or replacement parts may be used during the ride.\n– If a rider makes a wrong turn and rides off the event route\, regardless of the reason\, the rider must return (either riding or support vehicle) to the exact spot where the course deviation was made\, then continue riding.\n– No hand offs or mechanical support from a moving vehicle. \nRelay Team (same rules for supported riders as above except):\n– Riders share and exchange a single tracking device.\n– Riders determine when to exchange.\n– Both riders can ride at the same time sharing pulls and drafting\, you decide what is best for your team.

DESCRIPTION:Build-A-Bike Class\n\n\n\nEver wonder what makes a bike roll\, turn\, and stop? Over 5 sessions\, learn how to properly disassemble\, clean and completely rebuild a bicycle. In pairs\, students take apart and rebuild a BICAS project bicycle. Learn to rebuild bearing systems\, replace cables and housing for brakes and shifters\, install chains and properly adjust derailleurs. \nThis is a beginner-intermediate class. Recommended age for the class is 16 and up. For younger students\, check out our Youth Earn-a-Bike. \n*Students can pay 50% of the registration fee with Work Trade credit. Work Trade is earned at BICAS during normal open hours. Register in-person at the front desk. SUMMARY:The Shootout
DESCRIPTION:The Shootout \nThe shootout is the Saturday morning group ride. The ride has groups of about 20 riders in the summer and well over 100 riders in the winter and spring. The terrain is fast and rolling with two sprints and a gas station stop about halfway through. The total distance is just over 70 miles. If you’re looking for extra miles and some real climbing\, watch for the turnoff to Madera Canyon on Duval Mine Road. If you want to take in the same route at a slower pace\, catch the “scootout” or “old man shootout” leaving from the same starting location 15 minutes before the fast ride. \nThe Shootout is one of the best group bike rides in the country according to Bicycling Magazine. It is common to have pro cyclists showing up for this ride and it can be fast. \nCo-founded by Ralph Philips\, the owner of Fair Wheel Bikes\, and University of Arizona student Bob Cook\, an Olympic team member. DESCRIPTION:Bike Polo on The University of Arizona Mall between Cherry and Campbell. \nCycle polo\, bicycle polo\, or bike polo (polo-vélo in French; Radpolo in German) is a team sport similar to traditional polo\, except that iron horses  are used instead of horses. Great for improving bike handling skills. \nTypically\, there are extra mallets if you want to come out and play.  It is recommended to get a front wheel that is designed so a mallet wont get in the spokes.  Often the best material for this is political signs zip ties together. \nVery social group with a high chance of post ride beverages.

DESCRIPTION:Since 1991\, the KHMTT has taken place on Wednesday evenings in Cherry Creek State Park in early spring. \nThe weather is a bit unpredictable (this is Colorado!)\, but that is what makes the KHMTT unique and challenging! \nThe course begins at the edge of the Cherry Creek Reservoir\, winds through the wetlands southeast of the reservoir\, and crosses back and forth the small creeks that supply the water for the reservoir. \nThe KHMTT series is a fundraiser for the Cancer Fitness Institute in memory of Karen Hornbostel\, and Bicycle Colorado. \nKaren Hornbostel was a four-time masters national road champion who battled metastatic breast cancer for over 13 years\, yet courageously pioneered a fitness program for cancer patients that started what is today the Cancer Fitness Institute. Her work is still making a difference today in the quality of the lives of thousands of cancer survivors. \nBicycle Colorado envisions a Colorado where riding a bicycle is always safe and convenient for everyone\, where bicycling is the top choice for recreation and everyday trips\, and where the benefits of bicycling are experienced and valued by all people in our state. \nThe COBRAS and the KHMTT are proud to be able to contribute to these worthwhile organizations.

DESCRIPTION:Build-A-Bike Class\n\n\n\nEver wonder what makes a bike roll\, turn\, and stop? Over 5 sessions\, learn how to properly disassemble\, clean and completely rebuild a bicycle. In pairs\, students take apart and rebuild a BICAS project bicycle. Learn to rebuild bearing systems\, replace cables and housing for brakes and shifters\, install chains and properly adjust derailleurs. \nThis is a beginner-intermediate class. Recommended age for the class is 16 and up. For younger students\, check out our Youth Earn-a-Bike. \n*Students can pay 50% of the registration fee with Work Trade credit. Work Trade is earned at BICAS during normal open hours. Register in-person at the front desk. Upon completion of this fun course\, each student receives a $60 BICAS credit to spend on shop time to fix up their own bicycle. \nCourse Outline: \n\nIntroduction to BICAS\nFix a Flat\, tubes and tires\nHubs\nHeadsets\nBottom Brackets\nBasic wheel truing\nBrakes\nDrive-train and shifting\nTest ride!\n\nGet ready for that great Tucson riding weather!
