SUMMARY:Bike Polo
DESCRIPTION:Bike Polo on The University of Arizona Mall between Cherry and Campbell. \nCycle polo\, bicycle polo\, or bike polo (polo-vélo in French; Radpolo in German) is a team sport similar to traditional polo\, except that iron horses  are used instead of horses. Great for improving bike handling skills. \nTypically\, there are extra mallets if you want to come out and play.  It is recommended to get a front wheel that is designed so a mallet wont get in the spokes.  Often the best material for this is political signs zip ties together. \nVery social group with a high chance of post ride beverages.

SUMMARY:The Shootout
DESCRIPTION:The Shootout \nThe shootout is the Saturday morning group ride. The ride has groups of about 20 riders in the summer and well over 100 riders in the winter and spring. The terrain is fast and rolling with two sprints and a gas station stop about halfway through. The total distance is just over 70 miles. If you’re looking for extra miles and some real climbing\, watch for the turnoff to Madera Canyon on Duval Mine Road. If you want to take in the same route at a slower pace\, catch the “scootout” or “old man shootout” leaving from the same starting location 15 minutes before the fast ride. \nThe Shootout is one of the best group bike rides in the country according to Bicycling Magazine. It is common to have pro cyclists showing up for this ride and it can be fast. \nCo-founded by Ralph Philips\, the owner of Fair Wheel Bikes\, and University of Arizona student Bob Cook\, an Olympic team member. It is one of the oldest and must do\, bucket list group rides in North America. \nRide times change according to the seasons.   I try an update them here\, but check out  Click Here for Fair Wheels for the latest info \nFair Wheel Bikes is home to some of the top group rides in the country. Fast rides are held every Tuesday and Saturday mornings. In the spring and fall\, both rides are regularly attended by some of the top professional riders from the US and around the world. Rides (times below) start on University of Arizona’s west side at; \nUniversity Avenue and Euclid Avenue. \n \nStart Times\n\n\n\nRIDE TIMES FOR SATURDAY\nShootout (A group)\nScootout / Old Man Shootout (B)\nOld-Old Man Shootout (C)\n\n\nStarting 2nd Saturday of November\n7:30 AM\n7:35 AM\n7:40 AM\n\n\nStarting 1st Saturday of March\n7:00 AM\n7:05 AM\n7:10 AM\n\n\nStarting 1st Saturday of April\n6:30 AM\n6:35 AM\n6:40 AM\n\n\nStarting 3rd Saturday of April\n6:00 AM\n6:05 AM\n6:10 AM\n\n\nStarting 1st Saturday of September\n6:30 AM\n6:35 AM\n6:40 AM\n\n\nStarting 2nd Tuesday of October\n7:00 AM\n7:05 AM\n7:10 AM\n\n\n*TMFR starts the same time as The Shootout (A Group)\n\n\n\n

The Valley of the Sun bicycle race is a three-day USA Cycling event in which professional and amateur road racing cyclists compete in different categories for cash and non-cash prizes. A stage is held each day\, with riders in each category competing for a stage victory and also for their category’s overall ‘General Classification race win by having the lowest cumulative time for all three stages. The stages include the Landis Cyclery – Trek Individual Time Trial on Friday\, the Safeco Insurance\, Parrish Agency\, Road Race on Saturday\, and the exciting Hiser Joy criterium on Sunday in downtown Phoenix. There are over 700 participants in 25 categories of professional and amateur riders\, both men and women\, ages 10 to over 60\, all competing for their portion of a $20\,000 cash purse. \nRecognized by USA Cycling as one of the premier road cycling events in the Southwest\, The Valley of the Sun Stage Race is the first event of the annual American Road Calendar. The American Road Calendar highlights top events in the U.S. for riders across various categories to put on their list of must-do events. \n“The Valley of the Sun Stage Race has been a part of our Junior Development Series for many years. We are pleased to give them the recognition they deserve for providing a great experience for all categories of racers.” \nChuck Hodge\, Chief of Racing and Events\, USA Cycling \nFor the tenth year\, VOS will include a Hand Cycle category. The Paralyzed Veterans Racing Team\, along with the Free Wheel Foundation have been key supporters helping to drive the success of this new event. Darol Kubacz of the PVRT had this to say about VOS: “What VOS offers for the athletes is outstanding – above and beyond what most cycling events around the country have been able to offer “adapted” cyclist. I have great confidence in this event being a great experience for the beginner and advanced racer!” \nAlong with the three days of racing\, there are events on Sunday for children under the age of 12\, including a kid’s bicycle race. A portion of the proceeds from the race are donated to the SAFE KIDS Coalition of Maricopa County and the Phoenix Police Department to support child helmet safety awareness. \nThe Valley of the Sun Stage Race is put on by the White Mountain Road Club\, and is one of the largest bicycle races in the nation. Race promoter\, Brian Lemke\, had this to say about the race: “It is a great opportunity for cyclists of all ages and categories to brush shoulders and race on the same course as many of the top professional and amateur riders in America.” \nSeveral local businesses help to support the race through sponsorship of the White Mountain Road Club\, including Landis Cyclery\, Trek Bikes\, Hiser  Joy P.L.C.\,  and Tri-City Cardiology.

SUMMARY:OldSkool OG's" 24th Annual Anti-Superbowl ride
DESCRIPTION:It’s that that time of year again where we make our annual pilgrimage to the top of Charouleau Gap. This will be our 24th Super Bowl making the trek to the top.\nThis is an old double track rock crawling dirt road and the saddle is at a whopping 5100mountain bike\nofeet. Most of the road is very steep and it is 2400 vert feet of climbing in 6.5 miles.\nBring tons of water and some good energy snacks from the top. Even if it’s warmer at the bottom when we start it is always chilly at the top so a light extra layer is a wise thing to throw in your pack\, and it will be extra protection for the very hairy very fast decent.\nBe warned this is a very challenging ride with lots of chances for crashes and getting hurt. It is only for people that like pain\, sweat and blood\, kinda like a football player in an NFL Game !
