SUMMARY:The Shootout
DESCRIPTION:The Shootout \nThe shootout is the Saturday morning group ride. The ride has groups of about 20 riders in the summer and well over 100 riders in the winter and spring. The terrain is fast and rolling with two sprints and a gas station stop about halfway through. The total distance is just over 70 miles. If you’re looking for extra miles and some real climbing\, watch for the turnoff to Madera Canyon on Duval Mine Road. If you want to take in the same route at a slower pace\, catch the “scootout” or “old man shootout” leaving from the same starting location 15 minutes before the fast ride. \nThe Shootout is one of the best group bike rides in the country according to Bicycling Magazine. It is common to have pro cyclists showing up for this ride and it can be fast. \nCo-founded by Ralph Philips\, the owner of Fair Wheel Bikes\, and University of Arizona student Bob Cook\, an Olympic team member. It is one of the oldest and must do\, bucket list group rides in North America. \nRide times change according to the seasons.   I try an update them here\, but check out  Click Here for Fair Wheels  for the latest info \nFair Wheel Bikes is home to some of the top group rides in the country. Fast rides are held every Tuesday and Saturday mornings. In the spring and fall\, both rides are regularly attended by some of the top professional riders from the US and around the world. DESCRIPTION:Bike Polo on The University of Arizona Mall between Cherry and Campbell. \nCycle polo\, bicycle polo\, or bike polo (polo-vélo in French; Radpolo in German) is a team sport similar to traditional polo\, except that iron horses  are used instead of horses. Great for improving bike handling skills. \nTypically\, there are extra mallets if you want to come out and play.  It is recommended to get a front wheel that is designed so a mallet wont get in the spokes.  Often the best material for this is political signs zip ties together. \nVery social group with a high chance of post ride beverages.

DESCRIPTION:When:\nDecember 6\, 2025  7:30am \nWhere:\nWe’ll be hosted by the #1 Trail Angel of the Tour Divide (Kirsten of the famed Brush and Mountain Lodge) who now has a home in Anthem\, AZ and is letting us stage the ride from her casa – 2307 West Desert Hills Drive\, 85086. \nParking: fill her front yard. Then overflow parking along 23rd Ave. Let’s try to keep Desert Hills Dr. clear this year. \nPlease bring a beverage & snacks to share for post-ride. Let’s show Kirsten how we roll here in AZ!! \nWhat:\nThis is a big loop around Lake Pleasant – almost 60 miles. It will include some trail\, some dirt roads and some other stuff. You may have to get slightly creative with routing on the north end of the lake – depending on lake levels. Same with riding along the Agua Fria. Could be “interesting” if the river is high. \nRoute:\nAs always\, it is HIGHLY recommended that you bring\, and know how to use\, a GPS for this race. There will be no maps or cue sheets. \nPleasantville_route \nBonus: New for 2022 is a slight diversion (.3 miles down a dirt road) on the north side of the lake to to check out Solo Spring. Take a selfie at the spring and get a 20 minute bonus. Also\, there is water behind that concrete wall – a couple of feet deep. Good for filtering if you are low.

DESCRIPTION:The Shootout \nThe shootout is the Saturday morning group ride. The ride has groups of about 20 riders in the summer and well over 100 riders in the winter and spring. The terrain is fast and rolling with two sprints and a gas station stop about halfway through. The total distance is just over 70 miles. If you’re looking for extra miles and some real climbing\, watch for the turnoff to Madera Canyon on Duval Mine Road. If you want to take in the same route at a slower pace\, catch the “scootout” or “old man shootout” leaving from the same starting location 15 minutes before the fast ride. \nThe Shootout is one of the best group bike rides in the country according to Bicycling Magazine. It is common to have pro cyclists showing up for this ride and it can be fast. \nCo-founded by Ralph Philips\, the owner of Fair Wheel Bikes\, and University of Arizona student Bob Cook\, an Olympic team member. DESCRIPTION:Bike Polo on The University of Arizona Mall between Cherry and Campbell. \nCycle polo\, bicycle polo\, or bike polo (polo-vélo in French; Radpolo in German) is a team sport similar to traditional polo\, except that iron horses  are used instead of horses. Great for improving bike handling skills. \nTypically\, there are extra mallets if you want to come out and play.  It is recommended to get a front wheel that is designed so a mallet wont get in the spokes.  Often the best material for this is political signs zip ties together. \nVery social group with a high chance of post ride beverages.
