SUMMARY:Bike Polo
DESCRIPTION:Bike Polo on The University of Arizona Mall between Cherry and Campbell. \nCycle polo\, bicycle polo\, or bike polo (polo-vélo in French; Radpolo in German) is a team sport similar to traditional polo\, except that iron horses  are used instead of horses. Great for improving bike handling skills. \nTypically\, there are extra mallets if you want to come out and play.  It is recommended to get a front wheel that is designed so a mallet wont get in the spokes.  Often the best material for this is political signs zip ties together. \nVery social group with a high chance of post ride beverages.

SUMMARY:Karen Hornbostel Memorial Time Trial
DESCRIPTION:Since 1991\, the KHMTT has taken place on Wednesday evenings in Cherry Creek State Park in early spring. \nThe weather is a bit unpredictable (this is Colorado!)\, but that is what makes the KHMTT unique and challenging! \nThe course begins at the edge of the Cherry Creek Reservoir\, winds through the wetlands southeast of the reservoir\, and crosses back and forth the small creeks that supply the water for the reservoir. \nThe KHMTT series is a fundraiser for the Cancer Fitness Institute in memory of Karen Hornbostel\, and Bicycle Colorado. \nKaren Hornbostel was a four-time masters national road champion who battled metastatic breast cancer for over 13 years\, yet courageously pioneered a fitness program for cancer patients that started what is today the Cancer Fitness Institute. Her work is still making a difference today in the quality of the lives of thousands of cancer survivors. \nBicycle Colorado envisions a Colorado where riding a bicycle is always safe and convenient for everyone\, where bicycling is the top choice for recreation and everyday trips\, and where the benefits of bicycling are experienced and valued by all people in our state. \nThe COBRAS and the KHMTT are proud to be able to contribute to these worthwhile organizations.

SUMMARY:Tuesday Morning Fast Ride (TMFR)
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday Morning Fast Ride (TMFR) \nThis ride typically has a group between 10 and 40 riders and covers approximately 35 miles of rolling terrain with a steep climb at the finish. One of the most scenic rides if you are able to still look around as you hammer over Gates Pass and a super fast\, smooth\, winding road brings you back into Tucson \n\n\n\nRIDE TIMES FOR TMFR\n\n\n\n\n\nStarting 2nd Saturday of November\n7:30 AM\n\n\n\n\nStarting 1st Saturday of March\n7:00 AM\n\n\n\n\nStarting 1st Saturday of April\n6:30 AM\n\n\n\n\nStarting 3rd Saturday of April\n6:00 AM\n\n\n\n\nStarting 1st Saturday of September\n6:30 AM\n\n\n\n\nStarting 2nd Tuesday of October\n7:00 AM

SUMMARY:Spring Cyclovia-Canceled
DESCRIPTION:Did you know it costs 10’s of thousands of dollars to put on one day of cyclovia? Want to see more Cyclovia’s? Consider donating to Living Street Alliance.\n\nhttps://donorbox.org/living-streets-alliance \n\n\n\n\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=FA0EG7XAc7g\nCyclovia Tucson is an Open Streets event which temporarily re-purposes our public streets to be more inclusive of all people. Walk\, bike\, roll\, scoot. During Cyclovia\, the streets are yours!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIf you think about it\, streets occupy a lot of space. In fact\, they usually make up the largest amount of public space that exists in urban areas. Cyclovia Tucson takes advantage of this by reimagining Tucson’s streets as places for people and maximizing them with engaging\, all-ages activities that bring people together to socialize\, support local business\, explore the city\, and move freely! \nCyclovia isn’t a race. There’s no start and no finish. \nThink of Cyclovia as a really long block party;\na miles-long activation of street space to elevate and celebrate community. \nWhile a lot of folks participate in Cyclovia by bike\, you can absolutely walk or use people-powered mobility devices such as wheelchairs and handcycles to enjoy the route. Skating\, blading\, scootering\, or simply pulling out a lawn chair to take it all in—participate in whatever way feels good for you\, car-free and care-free.

SUMMARY:Tortolita Circumnavigation\, Self-Lead
DESCRIPTION:RESCHEDULED DUE TO RAIN. AND NOW SELF LEAD.\nHope for better whether next weekend. But our host can’t make it. So have your GPX and bike computer with you. There will likely be riders attending who have ridden much of the loop. But no official host.\nSTART LOCATION\nWalmart Supercenter at Oro Valley Marketplace\, 2150 E Tangerine Rd\, Oro Valley\nDURATION\n5 to 6 hours\nROUTE MAP\nhttps://ridewithgps.com/routes/45194600\nTHE RIDE\nI’ve had a few requests to lead this loop encompassing the Tortolita Mountains that is largely off pavement (there is some bike path along Tangerine). The ride starts in town but gets into remote areas. Bring water for 5 hours as there is no support until mile 45. It’s tough route starting with pleasant rideable single track\, fun double track\, groomed gravel roads\, rugged power line utility roads\, finishing with bike path. Total 52 miles and 2\,100 feet. A few sections of cobbles\, single track\, and longer sand crossings; put this in the “Challenge Gravel” category. The short Big Wash single track has sand and rocks that will play to your handling skills. And the Marana Powerline section sand will strain tired legs. Wide tires\, 50mm plus are a must.\nTERRAIN\n“Challenge Gravel”: to see some of the really spectacular areas\, we might need to get just a little uncomfortable\, but only when the challenge is worthwhile in amazing areas. Expect to walk certain technical stretches with pitchy climbs\, or along a sandy creek bottom. The better your skills and the wider your tires (50mm or more)\, the more fun this riding will be. Everyone who came out last year\, finished these rides\, but had really worked by the end. Examples are often following gas lines thru the back country\, or the Tumacacori mtns.\nEXPECTATIONS OF THE RIDERS\nThis is not a speed run\, it will be a casual pace and we’ll regroup from time-to-time making a reasonable effort to stick together.\nOur rides are intermediate in terms of physical effort. Rides are generally 4 to 6 hour efforts in remote unsupported areas sometimes without cell coverage. Riders are expected to be capable of self-supported repairs like fixing flats and mechanicals\, carrying sufficient food and water for the multi-hour rides\, and have on-bike navigation. There is no sag\, nor a final ride sweep. If a rider falls far behind\, makes a wrong turn\, or turns back; we aren’t capable of seeking them out or all turning back to regroup.\nThis group\, its members and host assume no responsibility for the health and safety of any attendee. In accordance\, each attendee agrees to assume personal responsibility for any injury that may occur during or after participation in the event.

SUMMARY:Tommy Knocker 10
DESCRIPTION:For those that don’t know\, we lost two giants of the Silver City community in October 2022\, Alex Olsen and Martyn Pearson. Not only did Alex and Martyn own the local bike shop\, Gila Hike and Bike\, they were also heavily involved with the local high school teams as coaches. As for Zia Rides\, Alex was a long time Zia Rides employee and close friend\, and Martyn was a true driving force behind the Tommyknocker. The Tommy Knocker 10 is now dedicated to Alex and Martyn\, so help us keep their memory alive every year by making Tommy Knocker our biggest and best event. \nWith the help of the Villag \nand the USFS we officially moved the event venue onto the grounds of Historic  in 2023. For those that made it in 2023\, you are fully aware what an amazing improvement this was to the event. Better venue and a new and improved course make the Tommy Knocker 10 a great start to the Zia Rides Season. \nCurve through the beautiful grasslands surrounded by enormous juniper and cottonwood trees\, get a little bit wet riding through fun stream crossings\, and see beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and meadows. The course is an intermediate 13+ mi. loop with less than 1000 feet elevation gain. \nBring the whole family for a weekend of killer riding\, hanging out in the spooky but cool Fort Bayard staging area\, and then go for a soak in local hot springs while sightseeing in the Gila Wilderness area. The Tommy Knocker 10 makes for an amazing getaway weekend of recreation and fun. We hope to see you there!

SUMMARY:The Shootout
DESCRIPTION:The Shootout \nThe shootout is the Saturday morning group ride. The ride has groups of about 20 riders in the summer and well over 100 riders in the winter and spring. The terrain is fast and rolling with two sprints and a gas station stop about halfway through. The total distance is just over 70 miles. If you’re looking for extra miles and some real climbing\, watch for the turnoff to Madera Canyon on Duval Mine Road. If you want to take in the same route at a slower pace\, catch the “scootout” or “old man shootout” leaving from the same starting location 15 minutes before the fast ride. \nThe Shootout is one of the best group bike rides in the country according to Bicycling Magazine. It is common to have pro cyclists showing up for this ride and it can be fast. \nCo-founded by Ralph Philips\, the owner of Fair Wheel Bikes\, and University of Arizona student Bob Cook\, an Olympic team member. It is one of the oldest and must do\, bucket list group rides in North America. \nRide times change according to the seasons.   I try an update them here\, but check out  Click Here for Fair Wheels for the latest info \nFair Wheel Bikes is home to some of the top group rides in the country. Fast rides are held every Tuesday and Saturday mornings. In the spring and fall\, both rides are regularly attended by some of the top professional riders from the US and around the world.
