SUMMARY:The Shootout
DESCRIPTION:The Shootout \nThe shootout is the Saturday morning group ride. The ride has groups of about 20 riders in the summer and well over 100 riders in the winter and spring. The terrain is fast and rolling with two sprints and a gas station stop about halfway through. The total distance is just over 70 miles. If you’re looking for extra miles and some real climbing\, watch for the turnoff to Madera Canyon on Duval Mine Road. If you want to take in the same route at a slower pace\, catch the “scootout” or “old man shootout” leaving from the same starting location 15 minutes before the fast ride. \nThe Shootout is one of the best group bike rides in the country according to Bicycling Magazine. It is common to have pro cyclists showing up for this ride and it can be fast. \nCo-founded by Ralph Philips\, the owner of Fair Wheel Bikes\, and University of Arizona student Bob Cook\, an Olympic team member. It is one of the oldest and must do\, bucket list group rides in North America. \nRide times change according to the seasons.   I try an update them here\, but check out  Click Here for Fair Wheels for the latest info \nFair Wheel Bikes is home to some of the top group rides in the country. Fast rides are held every Tuesday and Saturday mornings. In the spring and fall\, both rides are regularly attended by some of the top professional riders from the US and around the world. Rides (times below) start on University of Arizona’s west side at; \nUniversity Avenue and Euclid Avenue. \n \nStart Times\n\n\n\nRIDE TIMES FOR SATURDAY\nShootout (A group)\nScootout / Old Man Shootout (B)\nOld-Old Man Shootout (C)\n\n\nStarting 2nd Saturday of November\n7:30 AM\n7:35 AM\n7:40 AM\n\n\nStarting 1st Saturday of March\n7:00 AM\n7:05 AM\n7:10 AM\n\n\nStarting 1st Saturday of April\n6:30 AM\n6:35 AM\n6:40 AM\n\n\nStarting 3rd Saturday of April\n6:00 AM\n6:05 AM\n6:10 AM\n\n\nStarting 1st Saturday of September\n6:30 AM\n6:35 AM\n6:40 AM\n\n\nStarting 2nd Tuesday of October\n7:00 AM\n7:05 AM\n7:10 AM\n\n\n*TMFR starts the same time as The Shootout (A Group)\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Bike Polo
DESCRIPTION:Bike Polo on The University of Arizona Mall between Cherry and Campbell. \nCycle polo\, bicycle polo\, or bike polo (polo-vélo in French; Radpolo in German) is a team sport similar to traditional polo\, except that iron horses  are used instead of horses. Great for improving bike handling skills. \nTypically\, there are extra mallets if you want to come out and play.  It is recommended to get a front wheel that is designed so a mallet wont get in the spokes.  Often the best material for this is political signs zip ties together. \nVery social group with a high chance of post ride beverages.

SUMMARY:Sedona Big Friggin Loop - Arizona Endurance Series
DESCRIPTION:When:\nMarch 23ish\, 2023 ITT: Choose your start time/day in order to avoid having too many bikers in one area. These trails have become VERY crowded\, so we are trying to spread out and have different start times/days.  \nWhere:\nWe will be starting and finishing in Oak Creek Village. Notice that the start time has changed to a choose-your-own adventure style of riding. Disperse around Oak Creek Village for parking. Afterwards\, there will be a BYOB in the parking lots near Bike-n-Bean and Red Agave. \nThe Route:\nSedona_BFL_route \nIf Oak Creek is running particularly high\, this route can be used. Does require a $3 fee for Red Rock State Park. Sedona_BFL_alt_route \nSee TopoFusion’s Tutorial on uploading GPX tracks for help loading the GPX file onto your GPS. \nRoute Warning:\nDue to the nature of this route\, I strongly advise you to have a GPS with the GPX file loaded\, and some of the maps below. Sedona is generally a well-marked area\, nonetheless\, as you will see\, there are tons of trails that deviate from the trail (unmarked most of the time). I highly recommend that you either pre-ride the trail or consider take a GPS on the route. ESPECIALLY if you are a local and think you know the trails/route\, you need a GPS. It’s the only way to be sure you ride the correct course. The route doesn’t necessarily take the most obvious or most ridden connections.
