SUMMARY:Chino Grinder
DESCRIPTION:The Chino Grinder is Arizona’s oldest and most iconic gravel grinder and has earned a reputation as one of the toughest gravel races in the West. With routes that are 75–95% unpaved\, this is real Arizona gravel riding: long\, remote stretches of dirt road\, big views and enough climbing and distance to make finishing an accomplishment. \nPart of what makes the Chino Grinder special is where it takes you. The course travels through the high-desert country surrounding Chino Valley and includes sections of historic roads that have been traveled for generations. Riders trade the classic Sonoran Desert landscape of Southern Arizona for wide-open grasslands\, juniper country\, distant mountains and big northern Arizona skies. Depending on where you are on the course\, keep an eye out for pronghorn\, mule deer\, coyotes\, jackrabbits and the many hawks and other birds that thrive in this open country. \nMultiple distances make the Chino Grinder much more than a race for hardcore gravel racers. There are options for different ages and abilities\, whether you’re taking on your first big gravel challenge\, attempting a century\, or lining up to see just how fast you can ride it. Whatever distance you choose\, expect a course where self-sufficiency\, endurance and a willingness to embrace a little suffering are all part of the experience. \nThe start and finish at Chino Valley Community Park also makes this more than just a day on the bike. Grassy fields\, shade and showers create a comfortable home base for riders\, families and spectators\, with a pre- and post-race gathering that adds to the community atmosphere. Send your rider off\, enjoy the park while they’re out getting dusty\, and be there to cheer them home. \nThe Chino Grinder combines gravel\, history\, scenery\, challenge and community into one distinctly Arizona cycling experience. There’s a reason it has been around this long and why riders continue coming back to find out just how tough they are.

SUMMARY:The Shootout
DESCRIPTION:The Shootout \nThe shootout is the Saturday morning group ride. The ride has groups of about 20 riders in the summer and well over 100 riders in the winter and spring. The terrain is fast and rolling with two sprints and a gas station stop about halfway through. The total distance is just over 70 miles. If you’re looking for extra miles and some real climbing\, watch for the turnoff to Madera Canyon on Duval Mine Road. If you want to take in the same route at a slower pace\, catch the “scootout” or “old man shootout” leaving from the same starting location 15 minutes before the fast ride. \nThe Shootout is one of the best group bike rides in the country according to Bicycling Magazine. It is common to have pro cyclists showing up for this ride and it can be fast. \nCo-founded by Ralph Philips\, the owner of Fair Wheel Bikes\, and University of Arizona student Bob Cook\, an Olympic team member. It is one of the oldest and must do\, bucket list group rides in North America. \nRide times change according to the seasons.   I try an update them here\, but check out  Click Here for Fair Wheels for the latest info \nFair Wheel Bikes is home to some of the top group rides in the country. Fast rides are held every Tuesday and Saturday mornings. In the spring and fall\, both rides are regularly attended by some of the top professional riders from the US and around the world. SUMMARY:Nogales Bicycle Classic - Road Race State Championships
DESCRIPTION:Nogales Bicycle Classic\nOctober 17\, 2026 | Nogales\, Arizona \nThere are plenty of organized rides where the attraction is the distance or the challenge. The Nogales Bicycle Classic offers something a little different: a chance to experience a part of Southern Arizona that many people have driven through\, but relatively few have explored from the seat of a bicycle. \nNow in its 14th year\, the Nogales Bicycle Classic combines rolling terrain\, wide-open views\, Southern Arizona history and the unique culture of one of Arizona’s great border communities. \nAnd don’t let the word “Classic” fool you. There is plenty of climbing out there. \nA Different Side of Southern Arizona\nNogales sits in some of the most beautiful country in Southern Arizona. This isn’t the classic Tucson landscape of saguaros and sprawling desert. \nHere\, the elevation is higher\, the terrain rolls\, grasslands stretch toward distant mountains and the roads take you through a landscape shaped by ranching\, history and generations of people moving between Arizona and Mexico. \nOctober is also a pretty great time to experience it from a bicycle. \nThe Nogales Bicycle Classic offers multiple distances for different abilities\, whether you’re looking for a challenging day in the saddle or simply want to get out\, ride and experience someplace new. \nThis is a ride where looking up from your handlebars is highly encouraged. \nMore Than a Bike Ride\nPart of what makes the Nogales Bicycle Classic special is Nogales itself. \nThis is a community with a culture and identity unlike anywhere else in Arizona. The influences of Mexico and the United States aren’t separated neatly by a line on a map. Food\, families\, history\, language\, business and traditions have crossed that border for generations. \nThe Bicycle Classic gives riders another way to experience that community. \nCome down for the ride\, but don’t be in too much of a hurry to leave when you’re finished. Explore Nogales\, find something good to eat and make the bicycle ride part of a day discovering a corner of Arizona you may not know nearly as well as you think. \nRide With a Purpose\nThe Nogales Bicycle Classic is also a community event with a purpose. Proceeds help support local causes\, allowing a day spent riding your bicycle to have an impact long after everyone crosses the finish line. \nThat combination of cycling\, community and giving back is a big part of what makes smaller regional rides like this worth supporting. \nYou don’t need thousands of riders or a giant expo to create a great cycling event. Sometimes you need a beautiful route\, a welcoming community and a few hundred people who believe spending an October morning exploring Southern Arizona by bicycle sounds like a pretty good idea. \nWorth the Drive South\nIf most of your Southern Arizona riding happens around Tucson\, Oro Valley or the Catalina Mountains\, put the Nogales Bicycle Classic on your calendar and point the car south. \nBring your bike. Bring some friends. Expect some hills. \nAnd give yourself enough time afterward to enjoy Nogales. \nRide someplace different. Experience a border community from the seat of a bicycle. And discover another beautiful corner of Southern Arizona. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n74 Miles\n\n\n\n\n\nUSAC\, Gran Fondo \nStart Time: 8:00-8:05 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n62 Miles\n\n\n\n\n\nUSAC\, Gran Fondo\nStart Time: 9:00-9:10 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n40 Miles\n\n\n\n\n\nUSAC\, Gran Fondo \nStart Time: 8:20-8:30 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n20 Miles\n\n\n\n\n\nGran Fondo \nStart Time: 9:15 Bicycle Classic

SUMMARY:Bike Polo
DESCRIPTION:Bike Polo on The University of Arizona Mall between Cherry and Campbell. \nCycle polo\, bicycle polo\, or bike polo (polo-vélo in French; Radpolo in German) is a team sport similar to traditional polo\, except that iron horses  are used instead of horses. Great for improving bike handling skills. \nTypically\, there are extra mallets if you want to come out and play.  It is recommended to get a front wheel that is designed so a mallet wont get in the spokes.  Often the best material for this is political signs zip ties together. \nVery social group with a high chance of post ride beverages.
