SUMMARY:Pleasantville
DESCRIPTION:When:\nDecember 6\, 2025  7:30am \nWhere:\nWe’ll be hosted by the #1 Trail Angel of the Tour Divide (Kirsten of the famed Brush and Mountain Lodge) who now has a home in Anthem\, AZ and is letting us stage the ride from her casa – 2307 West Desert Hills Drive\, 85086. \nParking: fill her front yard. Then overflow parking along 23rd Ave. Let’s try to keep Desert Hills Dr. clear this year. \nPlease bring a beverage & snacks to share for post-ride. Let’s show Kirsten how we roll here in AZ!! \nWhat:\nThis is a big loop around Lake Pleasant – almost 60 miles. It will include some trail\, some dirt roads and some other stuff. You may have to get slightly creative with routing on the north end of the lake – depending on lake levels. Same with riding along the Agua Fria. Could be “interesting” if the river is high. \nRoute:\nAs always\, it is HIGHLY recommended that you bring\, and know how to use\, a GPS for this race. There will be no maps or cue sheets. \nPleasantville_route \nBonus: New for 2022 is a slight diversion (.3 miles down a dirt road) on the north side of the lake to to check out Solo Spring. Take a selfie at the spring and get a 20 minute bonus. Also\, there is water behind that concrete wall – a couple of feet deep. Good for filtering if you are low.

SUMMARY:Picketpost Punisher - Arizona Endurance Series
DESCRIPTION:Picketpost Punisher\n\n \nWhen:\nNovember 15\, 2025\nThe B (49 miles) and C (22 miles) routes will start at 7:30am. The A route (76 miles) will start at 5am. \nWhere:\nYou will  start at the Picketpost trail head off of Route 60 near Superior\, Arizona. This is about 60 miles east of Phoenix and about 5 miles west of Superior. If you pass the Boyce Thompson Arboretum\, you’ve missed the trailhead turnoff. You can get directions to the start here. \nThe trailhead has pit toilets\, but no water. Also no trash receptacles – pack it in\, pack it out. \nCamping is NOT allowed at the trailhead. There are however\,  a bunch of places to primitive camp beside the road that leads to the trailhead. \nWhat:\nThe Punisher will once again be split into 3 different lengths so that you can choose the amount of punishment you deserve. Make sure you review the GPS files. \nThe C ride will be the shortest AES ride ever. A measly 22 miles and about 2300 feet of climbing. In place of FR4\, you’ll get to ride new trails in Arnett Canyon. The route will climb on dirt roads part of the way up Montana Mountain. The descent back down will be on the Arizona Trail back to the Picketpost trailhead. Easy peasy. \nThe B ride is heading south this year. It is actually a subset of one of the previous year’s A route – without crossing the Gila River. You will head south on the Arizona Trail to FR4\, then turn south on FR4 (it is not closed in this area). You’ll climb up on the ever lovely Telegraph Canyon road\, then down\, past Ajax Mine to Box Canyon. There will be a hard left to get you over to Martinez Canyon. After traversing the “brass knuckles” you’ll end up at the Gila River not far from the Arizona Trail. Filter water at the river\, then head north to the AZT – all the way back to Picket Post. \nThe B ride has an opportunity for a time bonus. You’ll notice a little additional part of the route in Box Canyon. This goes to a section where the canyon gets very narrow – really cool to see. This is an out and back of about 3.75 miles. Do this and take a selfie. Your selfie\, along with your GPS track\, will get you an hour deducted from overall time. \nThe A ride (aka: The Pulverizer) will be the same stroll in the park as last year. You’ll begin by heading south on AZT down to the Gila River. You’ll cross the river (good chance to filter water) and start climbing to Florence-Kelvin Highway. You’ll then bomb down that dirt road all the way to Kelvin Bridge. From there it is AZT all the way back to the start. \nREAD THIS IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT DOING THE A RIDE:\nThe A ride is a seriously difficult ride. It is only for very experienced and capable back country endurance cyclists.  One of your sources of water is the Gila River – and that needs to be filtered. If you cannot meet the following criteria\, don’t even bother: \n1. You must have a GPS and know how to use it. There are no trail signs and it will be very easy to get lost.\n3. You need to be prepared to be on your bike for 10-15 hours or more. Some VERY fast folks have done this in 10 hours. Expect it to take longer for most everyone else. \n4. You must have lights and be comfortable with riding at night in challenging terrain.\nWater:\nIn a race of this length and remoteness\, water is a concern. Bring as much as you can! We’ve done some scouting and found some possible and some dependable water sources. Water sources are marked (as waypoints) on the GPS files. \nRoute:\nIt is HIGHLY recommended that you bring\, and know how to use\, a GPS for this race. The Legends of Superior section has lots of areas where it is easy to miss the trail and get off course. Using a GPS and paying attention are the best ways to stay on course and not get lost. GPS files for all three courses can be obtained at the links below.\nPPP_C_route\nPPP_B_route(punisher)\nPPP_A_route(pulverizer)

SUMMARY:Coconino Stage Bikepack - Arizona Endurance Series
DESCRIPTION:Coconino Stage Bikepack\n\n \nWhen:\nOctober 10-13\, 2025 \nWhere:\nWe will be meeting on Friday\, October 10-13\, 2024 at 7:00am in Flagstaff\, downtown at ‘The Place’ (21 S Milton Rd). We eat a big greasy breakfast\, chat a bit and then we ride! The actual starting time for the first stage (and every stage) is open-ended. \nWhat:\nThe 250-mile route has about 40-50% singletrack\, some of which is pretty darn technical\, and about 33k of climbing. The route is: Flagstaff-Sedona-Mingus Mountain-Williams-Flagstaff. Those that have never ridden in this area\, you are in for a treat! \nLive tracking link will be listed at: http://trackleaders.com \nCarrying a SPOT tracker is optional. You can add your own SPOT/InReach to the tracking map at the following link (email info@trackleaders.com to inquire about a rental device): \nhttps://form.jotformpro.com/trackleaders/long-trail \nThe (old) forum:\nhttp://www.bikepacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=10860.0 \nGPX: GPS and Cue Sheets can all be found here.  The file CLR22_v2_10k_simplified.gpx is the latest version of the route. The 2013 files are current for the cue sheets and waypoints. \nFor help uploading the track to your GPS see TopoFusion’s uploading tutorial. \nPlease note: it is very important that you upload both the GPS track (line) AND the waypoint file. The waypoints define where stages start and end\, as well as help everyone regroup at the end of each stage. \nBikepacking.net route description \nSelf Supported Stage Bikepacking \nThe Coconino 250 is a self supported stage bikepack. The usual rules for self-supported bikepacking apply (see AZT 300\, CTR for examples)\, with one exception: there are locations on the route where stopping is allowed and as long as you are there\, the ride clock is not ticking. \nThis makes the event into a quasi-stage ride. Riders may ride from one stopping location to another\, then rest the night before the next ‘stage.’ However\, stopping is not required at any of the points. The option of a non-stop ride is still open. \nThere are 4 stages\, with 3 “stage stop” locations. The first two are camp sites\, with no water or other services available (but fantastic views!). The third is the town of Williams\, where most racers opt to share motel rooms. You can also camp on nearby national forest\, if desired. \nEach rider’s time will be computed as = the total time on course minus the total time spent in designated stopping locations. Because of this it is important that you carefully log your time in and time out. Bring a piece of paper to do this\, and if you can collect a GPS track for backup\, even better. \nThe idea is to promote camaraderie\, lessen the physical ‘impact’ on participants\, and also experiment with a new format. \nThe stage stops are marked as waypoints in the course GPX file and also denoted in RED on the cue sheets. \nPictures \nYou can drool over some pictures on Scott’s website: http://www.topofusion.com/diary/2009/06/29/coco-ming-o-bob/ \nPlease use the signup form below\, and post in the bikepacking.net forum if you plan on attending. \nCLICK HERE FOR RESULTS\nComments\, suggestions\, heckling can all be made below. SUMMARY:Kaibab 140 and 230 - Arizona Endurance Series
DESCRIPTION:Date says June 1\, But this in an ITT and the recommended dates are june- September\n\n \nWhat:\nYour choice of one of two loop options (140 mile and 230 mile) on the fabulous Kaibab Plateau. While there is plenty of dirt roads there are also some awesome views of the west canyon (and a little of the east side) and amazing meadows north of the park border on the AZT. There is an optional\, but totally worth it\, out and back to Point Sublime. \nWhen:\nITT. So you get to decide when you do it. Recommend June-September. \nWhere:  Here are the two options. \nThe main loop starts at Jacob Lake and follows mostly dirt roads to the north rim of the Grand Canyon. From there the route follows the Arizona Trail back to Jacob lake. This is a stout 2 days of riding\, or a more reasonable 3 day route. \nThe other option adds in a loop to State Line campground. Both of these routes are worthy. \nRoute:\nKaibab_230_route \nKaibab_140_route \n \n

SUMMARY:Sedona Big Friggin Loop - Arizona Endurance Series
DESCRIPTION:When:\nMarch 23ish\, 2023 ITT: Choose your start time/day in order to avoid having too many bikers in one area. These trails have become VERY crowded\, so we are trying to spread out and have different start times/days.  \nWhere:\nWe will be starting and finishing in Oak Creek Village. Notice that the start time has changed to a choose-your-own adventure style of riding. Disperse around Oak Creek Village for parking. Afterwards\, there will be a BYOB in the parking lots near Bike-n-Bean and Red Agave. \nThe Route:\nSedona_BFL_route \nIf Oak Creek is running particularly high\, this route can be used. Does require a $3 fee for Red Rock State Park. Sedona_BFL_alt_route \nSee TopoFusion’s Tutorial on uploading GPX tracks for help loading the GPX file onto your GPS. \nRoute Warning:\nDue to the nature of this route\, I strongly advise you to have a GPS with the GPX file loaded\, and some of the maps below. Sedona is generally a well-marked area\, nonetheless\, as you will see\, there are tons of trails that deviate from the trail (unmarked most of the time). I highly recommend that you either pre-ride the trail or consider take a GPS on the route. ESPECIALLY if you are a local and think you know the trails/route\, you need a GPS. It’s the only way to be sure you ride the correct course. The route doesn’t necessarily take the most obvious or most ridden connections.

SUMMARY:Ripsey Arizona Endurance Series
DESCRIPTION:When:\nMarch 9\, 2024\nThe A (61 miles) will start at 7:30am.\nThe B route (34 miles) will start at 9am.\nCamping is allowed at the Ripsey trail head – although there are no facilities \nWhere:\nYou will  start at the Ripsey trail head off of E Florence Kelvin Highway near Kelvin\, Arizona.  Google map directions to the trail head are here. \nWhat:\nThe Ripsey ride will be split into 2 different lengths so that you can choose how much AZT goodness you wish to experience. \nThe A loop (61 miles) will be a the best choice for those who have the endurance. This route will climb on dirt roads all the way to the Freeman Road water cache on the AZT. From there you get to blast down the roller coaster ride known as the Boulders segment. After some relatively rugged jeep roads and some not very well marked twistys through the desert you get to do the famous “Switchback Hill” up to the Ripsey ridgeline. Pause to take in the views before ripping along the ridgeline. Finally you drop down to the finish on an extended downhill section. \nThe B loop will start the same as the A\, with a lovely grind up Florence Kelvin Highway – to the very top of the world. From there you’ll take Tecolote Rd. and some dodgy singletrack over to the AZT. You will be momentarily sad that you missed the Boulders segment\, but soon enough will be dropping down into Ripsey Wash and facing Switchback Hill. Once you reach the Ripsey ridgeline and marvel at how fricking big Asarco Ray Mine is\, you’ll be heading toward that final epic downhill. \nWater:\nIn a race of this length and remoteness\, water is a concern. Bring as much as you can! We’ve done some scouting and found some possible water sources – non of which are 100% reliable. Water sources are marked (as waypoints) on the GPS files. \nFor the A loop the Freeman Road cache “usually” has water – but that is totally dependent on kind people restocking it. If you happen to be in that area (EVER) it is good Karma to bring a few gallons for the cache. \nBoth A and B loops go by “Bathtub Spring”. This has always had water when I’ve been through there\, but a recent report said it was dry. This is a cattle trough\, so you’ll want to filter any water you get from it. \nRoute:\nIt is HIGHLY recommended that you bring\, and know how to use\, a GPS for this race. There are some sections on the AZT where the trail is not terribly well marked. Using a GPS and paying attention are the best ways to stay on course and not get lost. GPS files for both courses can be obtained at the links below.\nRipsey_A_route(long)\nRipsey_B_route(short) \n \nA course (61 miles)\n\n\nB course (34 miles)\n\nPost ride:\nBring a chair\, beverages\, food\, whatever. Hang out and watch the folks doing the longer routes come in. Spend some time getting to know the super cool people who share this strange compulsion to push themselves to their limits. Witness the pain\, utter exhaustion\, and sense of accomplishment of anyone who finishes the A loop. \nSpecial bonus!\nOld Time Pizza in Kearney (520 363-5523) will deliver to the trail head. There is a $10 delivery fee\, so it is a good idea to do a bunch of orders at once. Bring cash. \n\nCLICK HERE FOR RESULTS\n

SUMMARY:Tortolita 50 Arizona Endurance Series
DESCRIPTION:Arizona Endurance Series\nPosted on October 20\, 2007 | 4 comments\n\nThe Arizona Endurance Series (AES) consists of a number or grassroots\, endurance races and rides. At the beginning of the year\, the Antelope Peak Challenge will open the series with some little known singletrack near the town of Oracle. We have another Tucson ride\, the Tortilita 50\,  at the beginning of February. Next up is a ride that includes the famed Ripsey ridgeline. This is a great chance to check out a remote and rarely ridden section of the AZT.  In March we will be heading to Red Rock country for the Sedona Big Friggin Loop. Have you ever wanted to explore singletrack in Prescott? Come out to the Prescott Monstercross. We wrap up spring with a ride in the mountains of Flagstaff at the Aspen Asphyxiation. Then we will break until fall. First event of the fall season will be the Tusayan Tussle – up near the Grand Canyon. Then\, a new addition to the calendar – Mogollon Mayhem. Next up is a 4 day stage race –  Coconino 250 .  The year will finish out with the Kentucky Camp\, Picketpost Punisher and\, Pleasantville. \nThere are no fees\, no prizes\, but all attempts will be made to record your finish time in comparison to others. The goal is to finish these challenges while setting your own pace. A start time and route are provided here and it is up to the participant to understand the route\, and also have full responsibility for their navigation and well being. These are not group rides\, although some people might do these as rides with friends or even other riders they meet at the start\, along the route. Since the events are self-supportive\, it should be understood that these are for experienced backcountry cyclists only. If you question your ability to complete such an event\, it is best that you consider another option before trying one of these. Also\, maps\, gps devices\, water filtration units\, and other back country tools are methods to ensure you complete the race. Therefore it is up to you – and you alone – to ensure your safety!! The goal of the Arizona Endurance Series is to promote responsible grassroots endurance mountain biking in Arizona\, and to provide a competitive outlet for the state’s current endurance racers – most of whom currently go out of state to compete. The AES will help train current endurance riders and perhaps enhance success by Arizonans in national events. We recommend that you join the Facebook site for all the updates\, maps\, and questions. So if you have interest\, come on out and join us\, and do your part to contribute to this grassroots effort! Only 74 participants can do the event\, so make sure to sign up on each event page. Also\, if you have any questions\, you can use the comment section below each event.

DESCRIPTION:When:\nAt 8:00am on Saturday\, June 1\, 2024 \nWhere:\nStart/End at Fort Tuthill\, big lot next to the Bike Park. \nWhere:\nAspen Asphyxiation is back in 2023 with a new route and new trails. We will start at Fort Tuthill and then shortcut through the city to Elden via Sinclair/AZT. We will then climb up the brand new Lower Brookbank and descend the gnarly Big Band/Afterglow. We will climb Dogfood and fire/flood survivors: AZT and Secret. We will connect via Freidlein Prairie Rd\, Veit Spring Trail and Snowbowl Rd to Aspen Corner. From there it’s a fun descent on AZT and Moto. We will venture into the unknown by means of Hidden Hollow Road\, Mesa Observatory forest service roads and A1 Mountain Rd. We will cross the railroad tracks via an interesting but straightforward solution. Then it’s on to Soggy Bottom Ranch Rd. to uncharted roads all the way to Rogers Lake Connector trail. Good ole FUTS and Soldier trail will take us back to Fort Tuthill. \nWater available for filtering only in Shultz Creek and Roger’s Lake (and a number of small streams which may or may not still be there by next week). \nVERY IMPORTANT: \nStart time and route are provided here and it is up to the participant to understand the route\, and also have full responsibility for their navigation and well being. Since the events are self-supportive\, it should be understood that these are for experienced adult backcountry cyclists only. If you question your ability to complete such an event\, it is best that you consider another option before trying one of these. Also\, maps\, gps devices\, water filtration units\, and other backcountry tools are methods to ensure you complete the race. Therefore it is up to you – and you alone – to ensure your safety!! \nRoute:\nAA_route \nStrava Cue Sheet: \n2023 Cue Sheet
