Bicycle Ranch Saturday Roundup
The Bicycle Ranch Saturday Roundup has become a staple of Tucson’s weekend road cycling scene, particularly for riders on the northwest side of town. Starting from Bicycle Ranch Tucson at Oracle and Ina, the weekly ride attracts everyone from experienced racers to recreational riders looking for a solid Saturday morning on the bike.
The main Roundup is approximately 56 miles, generally heading through northwest Tucson, Oro Valley and the Dove Mountain area. The advertised A/B pace is 18–22+ mph, although the pace can get considerably quicker when a strong group shows up. Splits are common, and smaller groups naturally form along the way. The faster groups should be considered drop rides, so riders should know the route and be prepared to find their own way back if they lose contact.
For riders who want something a little more relaxed, Bicycle Ranch has also supported the Little Roundup, a shorter, moderately paced option intended to provide a friendlier, more approachable group experience. The exact groups available can vary from week to week, and the shop is currently encouraging additional riders to help lead B and C paced groups.
One of the things that distinguishes the Roundup from Tucson’s legendary Shootout is its accessibility. It can still be a seriously fast training ride at the front, but there is generally room for riders who aren’t interested in turning every Saturday morning into a race. It’s a good introduction to Tucson group riding while still offering plenty of opportunity to test your legs.
