Bike Ride List January 14, 2022

It’s Mountain Bike season in the Old Pueblo as many people are gearing up for the 24 Hours in the Old Pueblo. Need wood for your camp site? I had to take down a eucalyptus tree last year and have seasoned wood.  If you need some, feel free to drop me a line.

I said this in the last ride list, but feel compelled to restate it. I’m reticent about putting out the ride list with COVID on the rise, but feel it’s your choice if you want to be in a group. I do hope that those who are feeling any symptoms avoid groups and if the ride heads inside for beverages you respect social distancing and local laws on masks.

In creating this list I’m amazed how many rides are still not happening. Others are back, but have asked not to publicly share at this time. I’m sure I’m missing some rides and events, so please text me at 520-977-5664 or email Damion@DamionAlexander.com if you know of something that should be on this list. I’m sure with each week the list will be enhanced.

Damion

I DID NOT CONFIRM EVERY TIME, but did get in touch with most of the ride leaders and shops.  You should always verify times before you head out and remember these ride times are when the ride leaves. Please show up as early as needed to make sure you are ready to roll out at the time posted.

RIDE AND EVENT DISCLAIMER

These rides are not mine.  I am only sharing the data.  The Damion Alexander Team can’t guarantee anybody’s safety.  There are unknown and unforeseen potential hazards in every ride so you should pay attention and take reasonable precautions.  I always use a helmet.  I think that helmets should be required when riding.  If you choose to listen to music during rides you should only use the headset in one ear or use a bone conducting system.  Better yet, buy a FarEnd Gear earbud.  Communication is essential during all rides and having the ability to hear is a part of your responsibility to others.  Please also ride within your limitations. You are not racing the Tour de France.  If you see someone  that is  not riding within their limitations or are becoming a hazard to others we should politely bring this to their your attention.  Do this for your and everybody’s safety.

Also, it is everybody’s responsibility to follow all traffic laws.  We are not lemmings.  Just because somebody does something foolish does not mean you need to follow.  Use your head and enjoy your ride.

THE DAMION ALEXANDER TEAM, DAMION ALEXANDER, AND ANYONE ELSE WHO CONTRIBUTES TO THIS LIST SPECIFICALLY DISCLAIM RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY ACCIDENT OR INJURY THAT OCCURS ON THSES RIDES.  EVERY PERSON IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS AROUND THEM

The one and only Tucson Bike Ride List – March 2020

I DID NOT CONFIRM EVERY TIME, but did get in touch with most of the ride leaders and shops.  You should always verify times before you head out and remember these ride times are when the ride leaves.  Please show up as early as needed to make sure you are ready to roll out at the time posted.

RIDE AND EVENT DISCLAIMER

These rides are not mine.  I am only sharing the data.  The Damion Alexander Team  cannot guarantee anybody’s safety.  There are unknown and unforeseen potential hazards in every ride so you should  pay attention and take reasonable precautions.  I always use a helmet.  I think that Helmets are required when riding.  If you choose to listen to music during rides you should only use the headset in the right ear and keep the headset out of the left ear. Better yet, buy a FarEnd Gear earbud.  Communication is essential during all rides and having the ability to hear is a part of your responsibility to others.  Please also ride within your limitations. You are  not racing the Tour de France.  If you see someone  that is  not riding within their limitations or are becoming a hazard to others we should politely bring this to their your attention  Do this for your and everybody’s safety.  Also, it is everybody’s responsibility to follow all traffic laws.  We are not lemmings.  Just because somebody does something foolish does not mean you need to follow.  Use your head and enjoy your ride.

THE DAMION ALEXANDER TEAM, DAMION ALEXANDER, AND ANYONE ELSE WHO CONTRIBUTES TO THIS LIST SPECIFICALLY DISCLAIM RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY ACCIDENT OR INJURY THAT OCCURS ON THESE RIDES.  EVERY PERSON IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS AROUND THEM.

WHERE DO ALL THE RIDES COME FROM?  These links and shops and clubs and teams and facebook and YOU.  See a ride that is missing.  Please let me know  Damion@DamionAlexadner.com.  Thanks

This list is a major time commitment and it is my pleasure to put it together.  All I ask in return for the list is that you remember I’m A REALTOR.  If you have a relationship with another REALTOR, I love loyalty and respect those relationships.  However, if not, or if you need a second opinion, Please keep me in mind.  Many agents spend money advertising for new business, others sit open houses or cold call.  My business is based on referrals from past clients and friends.  The less time I have to do traditional prospecting the more I can do for the cycling community.  For example: this list.

THIS LIST IS PROVIDED AT A COURTESY OF THE DAMION ALEXANDER TEAM.  THIS LIST IS DEEMED RELIABLE, BUT NOT GUARANTEED.  WHEN POSSIBLE, CONTACT INFORMATION FOR THE GROUP RIDERS ARE PROVIDED.  TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND DOUBLE CHECK OR GO TO THE RIDE AND IF NO ONE IS THERE, GO RIDE BY YOURSELF.

The Ride List

The ride list this week has every race and ride in the SW that I could find. If you know of any other rides or events that are not on this list please email Damion@LongRealty.com.

I’m leading a slow ride on Wednesdays at 5PM from Zinburger on River road. Each week Zinburger is donating 20% of food sales to a different El Tour De Tucson Beneficiary. All you need to do is eat at the River location and mention El Tour and Percent night. Speaking of El Tour, it’s time to register. Want to ride for FREE? Consider riding for a charity. Check out http://www.perimeterbicycling.com/el-tour-de-tucson/beneficiaries-funraising-nonprofit/ for more info. If you would rather just donate to my ride at https://bikepilgrim.com/?p=1130.

Community Ride List for the holiday season

My holiday gift to you. Once again, the ride list. I do hope you have used it this year and it’s adding a little value to your riding experience.

OMG. OMG. OMG!!!! The Loop is completely paved! The county finished the last section from Tanque Verde to Craycroft TODAY! But the fences are not down as of the time I’m typing this. I expect they should be down next week. I’ll share the news as soon as I see it!

All of the 8ish days of Christmas rides are on the list this week. It is so cool seeing SDMB, TORCA, and SAMBA all leading rides. I could go on for hours thanking these organizations for all they have done to make the mountain biking in Tucson what it is. For a holiday present you can’t go wrong in giving a friend a membership to one of our advocacy groups. Another great gift you can give is your time. Build Days are coming up for McKenzie Ranch as well as many great projects on the west side. 2018 is going to be a phenomenal year for trails in the region.

Not much on the road front this week apart from the regular rides. Seems the same every year. I think it is the holiday traffic. It is a little crazy on the roads. Good news, we have all those MTB rides.

Again, Happy Holidays. I hope we have a chance to ride together next year.

Damion

If you see someone  that is  not riding within their limitations or are becoming a hazard to others we should politely bring this to their your attention  Dothis for your and everybody’s safety.

TBC Circuit Race Part one.

Lets get this party started.  The early start.  There are nearly 2000 images to get through from the circuit race.  Today I need to prospect for new business for my real estate team.  However, I’d rather save the time and focus on the photos, for you.  So, send me a referral today and I can justify rocking through all the images.  Otherwise, I’m going to need to focus on my real job and leave the hobby for next week.

These photos are a major time commitment and it is my pleasure to take the photos and share them with you. All I ask in return for the photos is that you remember I’m A REALTOR. For example: these photo albums. THANKS!!!

Do you like competitions? I’m up against my kids to raise the most funds riding in El Tour De Tucson for Arts Express. Please be so kind to check out https://bikepilgrim.com/?p=998 and make a donation to Sam, Sophia or my campaign.

Did you miss the deadline for registering for el tour prior to the increased processing fee? Union Public House and Reforma, the official restaurants of El Tour have a discount code, but it won’t last. Save yourself $30, and then use it to grab something to eat. I can’t get enough of the pretzels, mason jars and Margaritas. Conveniently located across from my Long Realty office at River and Campbell. Let me know you are there and I’ll join you for a nibble and a drink. https://tinyurl.com/UnionPublicHouseElTourDiscount

Pachanga = Party! This weekend at Molino Basin, half way up Mt. Lemmon, is the TORCA Pachanga. Demo bikes, vendors, friends, beer, camping, cooler temperatures. If you are into Fat Tires, this is the place to be!

Damion

If you see someone  that is  not riding within their limitations or are becoming a hazard to others we should politely bring this to their your attention  Dothis for your and everybody’s safety.

Ride List – 80+ plus rides and 50 events

I need your help. For El Tour De Tucson I am raising funds for multiple charities. Check out this link to donate https://bikepilgrim.com/?p=966

My intent is not only to raise much needed funds, but also to introduce Tucson to all of the incredible beneficiaries who benefit from El Tour De Tucson.

When you raise funds for a charity you receive a free entry into El Tour. As I’m riding for multiple charities and get one entry from each, I’ll be donating the entries to El Grupo Youth Cycling to give kids an opportunity to experience the largest ride we have here in the Old Pueblo.

As much as I’d appreciate a donation, I’d prefer you register to ride for one of the charities yourself.  A nice bonus for you is each charity has “goodies” they give back to those who ride and raise funds. Every beneficiary is different, but all include an entry into El Tour De Tucson and an event shirt. One charity, Uphill into the Wind, will even provide you with a bike to use in the event if you do not have one. Many have cycling jerseys or kits, some have professional coaches, and group rides.

I really appreciate it.

If you see someone  that is  not riding within their limitations or are becoming a hazard to others we should politely bring this to their your attention  Dothis for your and everybody’s safety.

Also, it is everybody’s responsibility to follow all traffic laws.  We are not lemmings.  Just because somebody does something foolish does not mean you need to follow.  Use your head and enjoy your ride.

Ride list and Thoughts on Whats Happening in Bike Advocacy

It’s been a busy week on the bike front.

The city of Tucson is holding public meetings about how to spend $200,000 in impact fees that are designated for Sentinel Peak “A Mountain”.  Your voice matters. Take the survey here. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2RBV6RF Personally, I said “trails”. In the additional comments I mentioned a trail from the Mercado to the top of “A” Mountain and to the South to access Starr Pass and Tucson Mountain Park. This could be so huge for tourism and a safe playground for local kids of all ages.

Last Tuesday the Pima County board of Supervisors voted on a hands free ordinance in Pima County as a primary offense. In the past 5 years I have been working with Brendan Lyons from the State to the local municipalities to try and get people behind the wheel to pay attention. While this is a project that is still in process, this was a giant accomplishment. It’s rather incredible knowing that these efforts will save lives. Now we need to get Tucson to accept it as a primary offence and  Marana, South Tucson, Sahuarita, Green Valley and the University of Arizona to adopt an identical ordinance so we have continuity in all of Southern Arizona. It gives me great satisfaction seeing Pima county do what is the right thing when the State is unwilling to step up.

As the Executive Director of the Arizona Bicycle Center I have had plans drawn for a Velodrome, BMX Park, Cyclocross, Mountain bike Park, Pump track, Jump Track, crit course that is close to Mountain Biking and the Loop. I’ve had the conceptual plans for a few months, but have been waiting on getting County, City, and most important, neighborhood buy in. I’m super excited to announce the support we need from the County and City is in place and next week I’m meeting the neighbors. I’m chomping at the bit to tell everyone where this grandiose project will be, and hope to do so in the next few weeks.

The WAPA easement, the access to Honeybee Trails was reopened 17 days ago for Rancho Vistoso Residents. There is a 20 day window to appeal the zoning interpretation that opened it.  If there were no appeals it would have stayed open. However, from what I have been told, the Honeybee HOA is going to appeal this. If they do, I’ve organized a group from the cycling community who will be challenging the zoning interruption as well.  What the appeal from the cycling community will state is that the trail should remain open for all residents of Oro Valley and their guests.

Finally, as a Parks and Rec commissioner for Pima County I’ve asked for an item to be on the agenda at the May 12th Meeting.  The agenda item says “Informational update on Advisory Committee regarding speed limits on the Loop”.  I see the number one challenge on the roads, trails, paths is people not playing nice. Hopefully, others will see the value in creating a committee to deal with how we can make all the trails and paths friendly for everyone.   The meeting is open to the public and is at 9:30AM (unfortunately the same time as the GABA Mt. Lemmon Hill Climb). The meeting is at 3500 W. River Road.

No Joking – Ride list for April Fools day through April 8th

This weekend is the Tour De Mesa.  I hope everyone who is up there has a great ride and keeps the rubber side down.  Sunday Cyclovia will be the perfect recovery ride. Unfortunately, I can’t make it to Mesa, but will be out shooting photos at Cyclovia.

It’s that time of the year.  Most of the morning rides start earlier. It seems like each week one of them is changing, so check to make sure the time before you head out.

Arizona Cyclist is closing their Campbell location in two weeks. Steve said to come on down and check out some great deals. He would rather sell it than move it.

Perhaps you have dreamed of owning your own bike shop. ProBikes, now Lemmon Bikes, on Tanque Verde would love an offer on everything. 35K and you can have everything from the espresso machine to all the tools, displays and inventory.  Ask for Jerry.

Last year I was appointed to the Pima County Parks and Rec Commission. I’ve spent the first 6 months trying to figure out what is the purpose of this advisory position and to see how it can be used to advance my agenda( It’s Bikes and getting people outdoors if you were unaware). This past week I was able to use the position to set up meetings with county Supervisor Christy and Administrator Huckleberry for a group looking at bringing 300-400 cyclist to Tucson next year.  Pima county clearly understands the value cycling brings to the community and they are very interested in bringing people to the Old Pueblo to ride. If you have any concerns or ideas about our parks, let me know. I’m listening.

Better yet, buy a FarEnd Gear earbud.  Communication is essential during all rides and having the ability to hear is a part of your responsibility to others.  Please also ride within your limitations. You are  not racing the Tour de France.

Community Ride List 3.25.17 – 4.1.17 and beyond

I’m a little late on getting the ride list out.  Work keeps getting in the way of all the fun stuff, like sharing bike rides.    Speaking of work- Real Estate, if you care to see my newest listing, you can click the link below.

http://www.flexmls.com/cgi-bin/mainmenu.cgi?cmd=url+other/run_public_link.html&public_link_tech_id=1al36kegdw7r&s=12&cid=1

A HUGE Thanks to everyone who donated last week to the kickstarter campaign to paint the bike Mural at 6th and Stone.  Joe Pagac was able to raise the funds he needed and has already started painting.  After I sent out the ride list there was a spike in donations. It makes me so happy seeing the community come together for one of our own.

April is bike month in Tucson. Bike Fest Tucson have created a nice calendar and have over 50 events already.  If you have a ride it is easy to add it. If I have time, I’ll add all of them to my list, but this week I’m just putting in the link. https://www.bikefesttucson.com/events/2017-04/

Ride on,

Damion

The Community Ride List for December 3-10

It’s arrived!!! The month when we don’t have time to do anything because we are doing everything.  Holiday Parties, shopping, family, travel, and hours and hours of frustrating time in traffic.

With the shorter days and colder weather finding time to ride the Bike can be allusive.  Having once successfully ridden 365 days straight, I recommend that you make the bike ride the top priority. Ride as early in the day as possible, if not the days will just slip away.  Also, figure out the appropriate gear ASAP.  Gloves? Head warmer? Arm and Leg Warmers? Jacket? Wicking base layer? Boot Covers? No matter how cold it gets in Tucson there is cycling apparel that can keep you at a comfortable riding temperature and is still flexible enough to allow for hours of riding.

I would also consider commuting to get in the miles and you might find with the traffic you get there faster.  Since it is not hot, you won’t arrive sweaty.  Personally, I keep a few suits in the office and ride on the days I know I’m not meeting clients.  I guarantee, you will have a Happy Holiday Season if you spend more time in the saddle and less behind the wheel of the auto.

Damion

WHERE DO ALL THE RIDES COME FROM?  These links and shops and clubs and teams and facebook and YOU.  See a ride that is missing.  Please let me know  Damion@DamionAlexadner.com.  Thanks
