Bike Ride List December 04, 2022

We had some rainy days so I BEEFED up the ride list!

It is the most comprehensive event list for the Southwest and four corner states (and So Cal) for 2023. I’m saying this as I spent two days scouring the internet and in so doing discovered some other lists that are really good, but not at this level. Like the Borg, I have integrated all of the other lists and found links to each event.  It includes Road, Mountain Bike, Gravel, Cyclocross, Bike Packing, BMX, Fat Bikes, Track, Downhill and Enduro.  Over 140 races/events to choose from. It’s still a work in progress and will continue to grow as I discover new events.

This coming weekend Is one of the top five Cycling Related Events in Tucson that brings all of these groups together.  It is the BICAS art Auction.Come support BICAS and help decorate your home and yard in the most classic and timeless style, Bike Art! Even I I have a piece I donated this year and it can be yours. https://bicas.org/auction/

In case you did not know, I do this list because I have a passion for cycling, but it does not pay any bills. In order to find the time to do this list all I ask is if you are thinking of buying or selling or know someone who is, please let me know. Real Estate pays the bills and I can either do traditional real estate marketing like sitting open houses and making cold calls, or provide an actual service, like this ride list. Please and Thanks.

If you know of a ride that’s not on the list, please contact me. Best is text 520-977-5664 or email damion@damionalexander.com.

I DID NOT CONFIRM EVERY TIME, but did get in touch with most of the ride leaders and shops.  You should always verify times before you head out and remember these ride times are when the ride leaves. Please show up as early as needed to make sure you are ready to roll out at the time posted.

RIDE AND EVENT DISCLAIMER

These rides are not mine.  I am only sharing the data.  The Damion Alexander Team can’t guarantee anybody’s safety.  There are unknown and unforeseen potential hazards in every ride so you should pay attention and take reasonable precautions.  I always use a helmet.  I think that helmets should be required when riding.  If you choose to listen to music during rides you should only use the headset in one ear or use a bone conducting system.  Better yet, buy a FarEnd Gear earbud.  Communication is essential during all rides and having the ability to hear is a part of your responsibility to others.  Please also ride within your limitations. Bike Ride List January 14, 2022

It’s Mountain Bike season in the Old Pueblo as many people are gearing up for the 24 Hours in the Old Pueblo. Need wood for your camp site? I had to take down a eucalyptus tree last year and have seasoned wood.  If you need some, feel free to drop me a line.

I said this in the last ride list, but feel compelled to restate it. I’m reticent about putting out the ride list with COVID on the rise, but feel it’s your choice if you want to be in a group. I do hope that those who are feeling any symptoms avoid groups and if the ride heads inside for beverages you respect social distancing and local laws on masks.

In creating this list I’m amazed how many rides are still not happening. Others are back, but have asked not to publicly share at this time. I’m sure I’m missing some rides and events, so please text me at 520-977-5664 or email Damion@DamionAlexander.com if you know of something that should be on this list. I’m sure with each week the list will be enhanced.

Damion

You are not racing the Tour de France.  If you see someone  that is  not riding within their limitations or are becoming a hazard to others we should politely bring this to their your attention.  Do this for your and everybody’s safety.

Also, it is everybody’s responsibility to follow all traffic laws.  We are not lemmings.  Just because somebody does something foolish does not mean you need to follow.  Use your head and enjoy your ride.

THE DAMION ALEXANDER TEAM, DAMION ALEXANDER, AND ANYONE ELSE WHO CONTRIBUTES TO THIS LIST SPECIFICALLY DISCLAIM RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY ACCIDENT OR INJURY THAT OCCURS ON THSES RIDES.  EVERY PERSON IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS AROUND THEM

TMC Trail Challenge

The Run Tucson, Tucson Medical Center Trail Challenge is a walking, running, hiking event from February 21st, 2021 – March 7, 2021 that was created due to COVID-19 to encourage and motivate people everywhere to get off the couch, outside, active and to share the experience in a safe virtual setting. The Damion Alexander Team is creating videos of different trails and Tucson running personalities to give some additional motivation (SEE LINKS BELOW)

Another fun component of the TMC trail challenge is the The trail challenge photo contest. Categories will include: Nature, Wildlife, Action, Urban, and Selfie. The winner of each category will receive a $50 gift card for use at any one of the following local restaurants: Reforma Modern Mexican, Union Public House, and Proof Artisanal Pizza and Pasta. Winners also receive a trail running photo shoot from Run Tucson and The Tucson Photography Festival sponsors “The Damion Alexander Team”.

To enter, you need to register for the TMC Trail Challenge and tag your photos on Instagram or Facebook with #tmctrailchallenge. Go to RunTucson.Net to register. There is no limit on the amount of images you tag.

The Ride List

The ride list this week has every race and ride in the SW that I could find. If you know of any other rides or events that are not on this list please email Damion@LongRealty.com.

I’m leading a slow ride on Wednesdays at 5PM from Zinburger on River road. Each week Zinburger is donating 20% of food sales to a different El Tour De Tucson Beneficiary. All you need to do is eat at the River location and mention El Tour and Percent night. Speaking of El Tour, it’s time to register. Want to ride for FREE? Consider riding for a charity. Check out http://www.perimeterbicycling.com/el-tour-de-tucson/beneficiaries-funraising-nonprofit/ for more info. If you would rather just donate to my ride at https://bikepilgrim.com/?p=1130.

The Damion Alexander Team  cannot guarantee anybody’s safety.  There are unknown and unforeseen potential hazards in every ride so you should  pay attention and take reasonable precautions.  I always use a helmet.  I think that Helmets are required when riding.  If you choose to listen to music during rides you should only use the headset in the right ear and keep the headset out of the left ear. Better yet, buy a FarEnd Gear earbud.  Communication is essential during all rides and having the ability to hear is a part of your responsibility to others.  Please also ride within your limitations. You are  not racing the Tour de France.  If you see someone  that is  not riding within their limitations or are becoming a hazard to others we should politely bring this to their your attention  Do this for your and everybody’s safety.  Also, it is everybody’s responsibility to follow all traffic laws.  We are not lemmings.  Just because somebody does something foolish does not mean you need to follow.  Use your head and enjoy your ride.

THE DAMION ALEXANDER TEAM, DAMION ALEXANDER, AND ANYONE ELSE WHO CONTRIBUTES TO THIS LIST SPECIFICALLY DISCLAIM RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY ACCIDENT OR INJURY THAT OCCURS ON THESE RIDES.  EVERY PERSON IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS AROUND THEM.

WHERE DO ALL THE RIDES COME FROM?  These links and shops and clubs and teams and facebook and YOU.  See a ride that is missing.  Please let me know  Damion@DamionAlexadner.com.  Thanks

This list is a major time commitment and it is my pleasure to put it together.  All I ask in return for the list is that you remember I’m A REALTOR.  If you have a relationship with another REALTOR, I love loyalty and respect those relationships.  However, if not, or if you need a second opinion, Please keep me in mind.  Many agents spend money advertising for new business, others sit open houses or cold call.  My business is based on referrals from past clients and friends.  The less time I have to do traditional prospecting the more I can do for the cycling community.  For example: this list.

THIS LIST IS PROVIDED AT A COURTESY OF THE DAMION ALEXANDER TEAM.  THIS LIST IS DEEMED RELIABLE, BUT NOT GUARANTEED.  WHEN POSSIBLE, CONTACT INFORMATION FOR THE GROUP RIDERS ARE PROVIDED.  TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND DOUBLE CHECK OR GO TO THE RIDE AND IF NO ONE IS THERE, GO RIDE BY YOURSELF.

Community Bike Rides May 12-18 2018

This coming Wednesday at 5:00PM is one of the most important rides of the year and I really hope you can make it. Please bring you friends, family, acquaintances, the guy you meet riding this weekend and your entire cycling team. It is the Ride of Silence. I get it, none of us want to think of the dangers posed by riding on the road. This ride forces us to confront that reality.  However, it is also an opportunity for us to show the rest of the community we have a right to ride on the streets and that they should be looking out for us.

If you have not heard, the Arizona State Legislators again failed to send a bill to the Governor that would ban texting while driving. Arizona is the only state that has not enacted a law. This Ride of Silence is also a message to the elected officials. The media will be there. If we have a HUGE turnout the visual is so much stronger in the news. So, PLEASE attend. It is only a five mile ride, but the impact may actually save your life of someone you know and care about.  There will be Pizza provided by Papa Johns after the ride.

Have you ever done a group ride, race or run in Southern Arizona?  If so, the chances are that I have a photo of you at the event. My son, Samuel, and I have created a page for all the images we capture. If you have not seen it, check it out https://thetucsonphotographer.smugmug.com/   The last event I posted was from the GABA Mt. Lemmon Hill climb. https://thetucsonphotographer.smugmug.com/Sports/Cycling/Large-Group-Rides-Not-races/GABA-Hill-Climb-2018/

Damion

I DID NOT CONFIRM EVERY TIME, but did get in touch with most of the ride leaders and shops.  You should always verify times before you head out and remember these ride times are when the ride leaves.  Please show up as early as needed to make sure you are ready to roll out at the time posted.

RIDE AND EVENT DISCLAIMER

These rides are not mine.  I am only sharing the data. If you see someone  that is  not riding within their limitations or are becoming a hazard to others we should politely bring this to their your attention  Dothis for your and everybody’s safety.

Community Ride List… Now with even more upcoming events and races

I put in a few extra hours this week searching for races and events for the next year. Please let me know if I missed anything

I think Cycling season in Tucson is year round, but for many, it starts in the months leading up to El Tour De Tucson. It is apparent on the roads and the Loop that each weekend more people are pumping up the tires, lubing the chains and getting ready for the largest perimeter cycling event in the country. Next weekend is the official kick off for El Tour Season with the 2nd Annual El Tour Loop the Loop. The fun will on the 16th is from 6:30 – 10:30 a.m and has all sorts of fun and activities all around the Loop.  Don’t forget the after party (11 – 1) at St. Phillips Plaza, on the Loop at River and Campbell.

There are a few advocacy groups in Tucson that are really getting some solid work done for the Cycling Community. As far as Mountain Bikes go, Sonoran Desert Mountain Bicyclists(SDMB), they have so many projects in the works I don’t have enough room to mention them all, but they include new trails from Vail to Oro Valley and all over the West side. I’ll do a separate blog on all of them on BikePilgrim.Com. All of this work can’t happen without funding. I recommend becoming a member of SDMB and buy some tickets for the Super Ultra Mega Raffle where you can win a pivot bike and other incredible prizes. Pick up a ticket at September 13th from 6-9 at Brushfire BBQ.

Damion

I DID NOT CONFIRM EVERY TIME, but did get in touch with most of the ride leaders and shops.  You should always verify times before you head out and remember these ride times are when the ride leaves.  Please show up as early as needed to make sure you are ready to roll out at the time posted.

2017 Southern Arizona Omnium

NICA High School Mountain Bike Race #5

This year I only made it to  one NICA race as my son, Sam, has told me he rides better and his luck is improved when I am not there. Since he was on the podium in the first 4 races and his overall standings were not likely to change in the final race I was given permission to attend.

Good news, I have over 1250 photos from the race.  CLICK HERE to see all the racing action

Bad news, I am a bad luck charm;-)  Sam broke his derailleur and had to run in the last mile or two. However, He had a smile on his face and finished the season 4th overall.

It was very cool seeing all the kids who started as Freshman during the inaugural season for NICA in Arizona and are the first class to have raced four years. Hopefully, there have been many relationships that will last a lifetime.

TMC Get Moving Tucson Halloween Weekend Event.

This past weekend was the TMC Get Moving Tucson Halloween Weekend Event. It consisted of a 5k race, a 5k run for Girls, Kids run and half marathon. I’ve had the privilege of being the lead out for the 5k and the Kids fun Run as well as taking a few photos here and there.
In the albums on facebook I only shared some of the images from this weekend. If you want to see every image, please look at my SmugMug page. Click here for ALL photos of the weekend Son and Dad Photography

Tucson Lifestyle.com 5k Run/Walk Click here for photos of the 5k

The 5K events are so interesting because you get to see people of all shapes, sizes and speed. I came in second, and I was on a bike. The leaders have a speed that is pretty incredible to watch as I ride ahead and a little embarrassing to be out sprinted for the finish. On the other end of the spectrum and even more impressive are the people who are finishing towards the back, but setting personal records. It is not where you finish, but that you come out, do your best and finish.

TMC Girls on the Run of Tucson 5k Walk/Run, presented by UnitedHealthcare

Click here for photos of the  Girls on the Run

This year there were nearly 500 runners, joggers and walkers in the Girls on the Run 5K from dozens of schools around Tucson. The participants are matched up one adult to one child. Essentially, this is showcasing a best practice in getting the community involved. Some people have vision. Others have determination. A few have the gift of pulling it all together. I’m speaking of Julia Strange with Tucson Medical Center. Not only was TMC the title sponsor for the TMC Get Moving Tucson Halloween Weekend Event, but The Girls on the Run has been the brain child of Julia. It is people like her that are making Tucson a healthier community for kids of all ages.

 TMC A-Mountain Half-Marathon

Click here for photos of the  Marathon Part 1     Marathon Part 2       Marathon part 3

What could make a half Marathon even more fun? Throw “A” mountain in the middle of the course. The view from Sentinel Peak of the Old Pueblo is always worth the trip. My favorite photo was of a couple doing cart wheels as they hit the highest part of the climb.

Cox Charities FitKidz Free One Mile

Click here for photos of the Fit Kids
This is my favorite race to watch. It is a free one mile race for kids under 12. The leader finished in under 5:30, and I think he was well under the age limit. Humans are incredible. My best mile ever was just under 6. We have some remarkable young talent I this community and it’s always fun to watch them develop as athletes and as people. Since it was Halloween, many were in costumes and watching 2 year old run in the middle of the street with parents is really cool. It was a good precursor for Cyclovia, that was held on Sunday.

TMC Meet Me Downtown 5k Night Run and Festival of Miles

The TMC Meet Me downtown 5k Night Run and Walk and the Festival of miles was run in Tucson on Memorial day weekend.

Featuring nine separate divisions of one-mile events, the inaugural Festival of Miles has been named a “Featured Event” in the acclaimed “Bring Back the Mile” series, founded by Ryan Lamppa. Showcasing America’s best Mile events, the Bring Back the Mile series aims to create a national movement highlighting the Mile distance.

I had the pleasure of being the lead out (on bike of course) for all 9 races on Friday as well as the 5k on Saturday Night. . I took my Trek Stache and was having to really push the bike to stay ahead of the last race. The winner finished in 4:11.  The 5K pace was easier and I opted to use my road bike.

It was tricky getting some of the images.  You would think that since I usually shoot cyclist, who go much faster, this would be easy.  However, I’m still trying to dial in the running shots.  I was not there as the photographer and if you really want to see some great shots check out the Goatographer and Oro Valley Photography.

Below are the links to the photos I shot over the two days.
