The city of Mesa opened its arms to the Arizona cycling community with the Arizona Bike Summit, Tour De Mesa, Two Wheel Jones Crit and other activities in the 5th annual Cyclomesa Celebration.

I think this is a great template for what Tucson can do to attract even more people to El Tour De Tucson.

” Cyclomesa celebrated it’s fifth event season in 2016! Over 10,000 people will head to Downtown Mesa during this three-day event. New to the Cyclomesa line up, the Coalition of Arizona Bicyclists and the City of Mesa, with support from the Perimeter Bicycling Association of America, will be hosting an Arizona Bicycling Summit conference on Friday, April 1, 2016. The Summit will include a variety of speakers, panels and workshop activities. The El Tour de Criterium Arizona State Championships will kick off the weekend starting on Friday afternoon. Experience the exhilarating rush of hundreds of riders racing through the streets. Complete with a beer garden, food trucks, vendors and live music, this kick-off party is a great way to showcase your company or brand to thousands of onlookers and a prime demographic. Saturday’s festival compliments the start/finish line of El Tour de Mesa, a 72-mile bike ride and the sister ride to the famous El Tour de Tucson. CycloMesa is all about adventure and taking risks. Attendees will have full, free access to the zip line, rock wall, BMX Freestyle Show, the Extreme Sports Zone and the Kid’s Splash Zone. Saturaday evening I had an opportunity to volunteer with the Sabino Canyon Bike Patrol and help with the Southern Arizona Roadrunners 35th annual Sabino Canyon Sunset Run. Since I was going to be there, I brought the camera and ended up with a few(hundred) images. I’ll be posting more on The Damion Alexander Team facebook page and here.

Happy Thanksgiving weekend. I hope you had a chance to over indulge in both miles in the saddle and the seasons trappings. I certainly have. I am so Thankful for the Cycling Community in Southern Arizona and each of you who give back. I’d like to name people, but the list is so long, it would exceed the length of this list.

I know it was hard for me to pull the ride list together this week. El Tour follow up, photos, work, family, turkey… I was even asked by a national blog to write an El Tour wrap up article. It will be appearing in GranFondo.com sometime in the near future. I put a copy of it with links on my blog

This is the most challenging week of the year for many cyclist. They just spent months preparing for El Tour and now that the goal has been achieved they put the bike up in the garage and don’t look at it until next fall. Hopefully, this ride list will help you find some motivation to keep going. Personally, I think the Tour de Cure on April 19^th is an exceptional ride to train for. Not only is it great motivation, but it also raises funds for the ADA. For some types of diabetes, riding and being active can help manage it and may even delay or stop the onset in the first place.

Thursday, October 29^th is the last day to get your early ballots in the mail. There is so much in the Bond election that will benefit the cycling community from roads, the velodrome, Loop Improvement and expansion, trailheads, and protecting open space. I ask you to vote yes on all 7 propositions for the future of our community. As for the cost… It will only be $17.54 per year for the average home owner. This is a very good value and is an investment we need to make.

So many great rides, so little time. It is the time of the year that many of the shop rides start to change start times, so make sure to double check before you head out. On the plus side, this time of year they are later, so it may just mean you are early.

There is a great ride for Habitat For Humanity.on Saturday the 17^th. With four different routes, including a 10 mile recreational ride, 30 mile and 60 mile road rides, and a 30 mile mountain bike ride, this event provides an experience for everyone. Following your ride, join our construction volunteers and new homeowners to build and raise the walls for three new houses. What a great opportunity to go for a ride and help make our community better.

If you only do to one bike event this week, I’m asking you to get political and attend the Pima County Supervisors meeting on Tuesday. They will be making the final decision on if we will have a bond election this fall. There are many projects that will benefit the cycling community and I am a HUGE yes vote for this Bond. It is at 9:00 Am on Tuesday downtown.

This list is a major time commitment and it is my pleasure to put it together. All I ask in return for the list is that you remember I’m A REALTOR. TORCA April Trail Work C.D.O. This is not an easy trail to get in and out for trail work so we will be doing an overnighter for this one. Plan will be to load up Saturday 4/18/15 into a few select 4×4 vehicles and drive to the base of CDO trail on the Charlou Gap rd. We will set up camp there and then hike in for some trail work.
