Community Ride List 9.30.2022

Each week I’m beefing up the ride list and I could use your help. Please Let me know what is missing.

I added some great events to the ride list this week that are coming up in the next few months. Cyclovia. GABA Bike Swap. Dirty Bunny MTB race. I also put in links to contact Cycle Fit and Zona Cycling about there rides. They are not “open” to everyone, unless you contact them first.

One of my favorite events is finally returning and I’m most excited to announce the return of the BICAS art auction.  The BICAS Annual Art Auction needs your help to prepare for this amazing community event. BICAS is seeking bicycle-inspired artworks & art created from bicycle parts. All mediums are accepted as long as it’s bike-themed! This is a great opportunity for artists to show off their art while donating to a good cause. To donate include your name and contact info. Please make your art ready to display by including any wall hangers, frames, or display stands. Donations are accepted in our shop any time during open hours by Dec. 1st.For more info about the art auction visit: https://bicas.org/auction/

If you know of a ride that’s not on the list, please contact me. Best is text 520-977-5664 or email damion@damionalexander.com.

This week the ride I’m recommending is Tour of The White Mountains.

I DID NOT CONFIRM EVERY TIME, but did get in touch with most of the ride leaders and shops.  You should always verify times before you head out and remember these ride times are when the ride leaves. Please show up as early as needed to make sure you are ready to roll out at the time posted.

Ride on,

Damion

RIDE AND EVENT DISCLAIMER

These rides are not mine.  I am only sharing the data.  The Damion Alexander Team can’t guarantee anybody’s safety.  There are unknown and unforeseen potential hazards in every ride so you should pay attention and take reasonable precautions.  I always use a helmet.  I think that helmets should be required when riding.  If you choose to listen to music during rides you should only use the headset in one ear or use a bone conducting system.  Better yet, buy a FarEnd Gear earbud.  Communication is essential during all rides and having the ability to hear is a part of your responsibility to others.  Please also ride within your limitations. You are not racing the Tour de France.  If you see someone  that is  not riding within their limitations or are becoming a hazard to others we should politely bring this to their your attention.  Do this for your and everybody’s safety.

Also, it is everybody’s responsibility to follow all traffic laws.  We are not lemmings.  Just because somebody does something foolish does not mean you need to follow.  Use your head and enjoy your ride.

THE DAMION ALEXANDER TEAM, DAMION ALEXANDER, AND ANYONE ELSE WHO CONTRIBUTES TO THIS LIST SPECIFICALLY DISCLAIM RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY ACCIDENT OR INJURY THAT OCCURS ON THSES RIDES.  EVERY PERSON IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS AROUND THEM

This list is a major time commitment and it is my pleasure to put it together.  All I ask in return for the list is that you remember I’m A REALTOR.  If you have a relationship with another REALTOR, I love loyalty and respect those relationships.  However, if not, or if you need a second opinion, Please keep me in mind.  Many agents spend money advertising for new business, others sit open houses or cold call.  My business is based on referrals from past clients and friends.  The less time I have to do traditional prospecting the more I can do for the cycling community.  For example: this list.

THIS LIST IS PROVIDED AT A COURTESY OF THE DAMION ALEXANDER TEAM.  THIS LIST IS DEEMED RELIABLE, BUT NOT GUARANTEED.  WHEN POSSIBLE, CONTACT INFORMATION FOR THE GROUP RIDERS ARE PROVIDED.  TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND DOUBLE CHECK OR GO TO THE RIDE AND IF NO ONE IS THERE, GO RIDE BY YOURSELF.

Bike Ride List 9.23.22

It’s been a hot minute since I put out the ride list. It seemed that every time I was about to do it there was a spike in COVID. Even though the risk of getting Covid on a bike was unlikely, to me, encouraging people to gather was not the responsible to do. At some point, we need to all go on living our lives and while some people may not be interested in being in a group of any sort, I feel that it is past time to give others the option to meet. Since it’s been sometime the list is somewhat anemic. Many of the weekly rides stopped for COVID and never started again. If you know of a ride that’s not on the list, please contact me. Best is text 520-977-5664 or email damion@damionalexander.com.

This week the three rides I personally would check out are Loop The Loop on Saturday, Bicycle Raches Crit races on Sunday as well as Our MTB Loma aAlta to Pistol Hill on Sunday.

Ride List for January 28, 2022

Some fun Times this week are to be had on bikes and with the cycling community. SDMB has 24HOP Pre-ride weekend with a Spaghetti dinner fundraiser,  TORCA has a movie Night at the Hop Shop Monday evening, and Cyclovia has a family-friendly group bike ride exploring January’s “Green at the Core” Route.  It’s around 3 miles and will end up at Himmel Park where riders can join in on a free, weekly dance party. As always,  all the weekly rides have something for every speed from the Tuesday Night Social Ride that explores around central Tucson, Bike Polo Wednesday, and the Legendary Shootout is currently stacked with pros for those who like to ride fast with the pack. I also added a Gran  Fondo in Fountain Hills in a few weeks, but that weekend, I recommend registering and racing in the Santa Catalina Omnium. Two of my favorite annual events.

PS some formatting issues with the new version of word press this week. Sorry if its a little wonky.

In creating this list I’m amazed how many rides are still not happening. Others are back, but have asked not to publicly share at this time. I’m sure I’m missing some rides and events, so please text me at 520-977-5664 or email Damion@DamionAlexander.com if you know of something that should be on this list. I’m sure with each week the list will be enhanced.

I DID NOT CONFIRM EVERY TIME, but did get in touch with most of the ride leaders and shops.  You should always verify times before you head out and remember these ride times are when the ride leaves. Please show up as early as needed to make sure you are ready to roll out at the time posted.

Bike Ride List January 14, 2022

It’s Mountain Bike season in the Old Pueblo as many people are gearing up for the 24 Hours in the Old Pueblo. Need wood for your camp site? I had to take down a eucalyptus tree last year and have seasoned wood.  If you need some, feel free to drop me a line.

I said this in the last ride list, but feel compelled to restate it. I’m reticent about putting out the ride list with COVID on the rise, but feel it’s your choice if you want to be in a group. I do hope that those who are feeling any symptoms avoid groups and if the ride heads inside for beverages you respect social distancing and local laws on masks.

Ride List February 5, 2020

This Ride List is complied by The Damion Alexander Team with Long Realty. Our team is passionate about cycling, getting people outside, healthy food, art and helping to build our community. We carry this into our work helping people create a lifestyle with that in mind. If you are thinking of a move, or know anyone who is, we would love to assist you. If you have other questions about Tucson and the region, Ask Us.

I DID NOT CONFIRM EVERY TIME, but did get in touch with most of the ride leaders and shops.  You should always verify times before you head out and remember these ride times are when the ride leaves.  Please show up as early as needed to make sure you are ready to roll out at the time posted.

RIDE AND EVENT DISCLAIMER

These rides are not mine.  I am only sharing the data.  The Damion Alexander Team  cannot guarantee anybody’s safety.  There are unknown and unforeseen potential hazards in every ride so you should  pay attention and take reasonable precautions.  I always use a helmet.  I think that Helmets are required when riding.  If you choose to listen to music during rides you should only use the headset in the right ear and keep the headset out of the left ear. Better yet, buy a FarEnd Gear earbud.  Communication is essential during all rides and having the ability to hear is a part of your responsibility to others.  Please also ride within your limitations. You are  not racing the Tour de France.  If you see someone  that is  not riding within their limitations or are becoming a hazard to others we should politely bring this to their your attention  Do this for your and everybody’s safety.  Also, it is everybody’s responsibility to follow all traffic laws.  We are not lemmings.  Just because somebody does something foolish does not mean you need to follow.  Use your head and enjoy your ride.

THE DAMION ALEXANDER TEAM, DAMION ALEXANDER, AND ANYONE ELSE WHO CONTRIBUTES TO THIS LIST SPECIFICALLY DISCLAIM RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY ACCIDENT OR INJURY THAT OCCURS ON THESE RIDES.  EVERY PERSON IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS AROUND THEM.

WHERE DO ALL THE RIDES COME FROM?  These links and shops and clubs and teams and facebook and YOU.  See a ride that is missing.  Please let me know  Damion@DamionAlexadner.com.  Thanks

The Ride List

The ride list this week has every race and ride in the SW that I could find. If you know of any other rides or events that are not on this list please email Damion@LongRealty.com.

I’m leading a slow ride on Wednesdays at 5PM from Zinburger on River road. Each week Zinburger is donating 20% of food sales to a different El Tour De Tucson Beneficiary. All you need to do is eat at the River location and mention El Tour and Percent night. Speaking of El Tour, it’s time to register. Want to ride for FREE? Consider riding for a charity. Check out http://www.perimeterbicycling.com/el-tour-de-tucson/beneficiaries-funraising-nonprofit/ for more info. If you would rather just donate to my ride at https://bikepilgrim.com/?p=1130.

I DID NOT CONFIRM EVERY TIME, but did get in touch with most of the ride leaders and shops.  You should always verify times before you head out and remember these ride times are when the ride leaves.  Please show up as early as needed to make sure you are ready to roll out at the time posted.

Community Bike Rides May 12-18 2018

This coming Wednesday at 5:00PM is one of the most important rides of the year and I really hope you can make it. Please bring you friends, family, acquaintances, the guy you meet riding this weekend and your entire cycling team. It is the Ride of Silence. I get it, none of us want to think of the dangers posed by riding on the road. This ride forces us to confront that reality.  However, it is also an opportunity for us to show the rest of the community we have a right to ride on the streets and that they should be looking out for us.

If you have not heard, the Arizona State Legislators again failed to send a bill to the Governor that would ban texting while driving. Arizona is the only state that has not enacted a law. This Ride of Silence is also a message to the elected officials. The media will be there. If we have a HUGE turnout the visual is so much stronger in the news. So, PLEASE attend. It is only a five mile ride, but the impact may actually save your life of someone you know and care about.  There will be Pizza provided by Papa Johns after the ride.

Have you ever done a group ride, race or run in Southern Arizona?  If so, the chances are that I have a photo of you at the event. My son, Samuel, and I have created a page for all the images we capture. If you have not seen it, check it out https://thetucsonphotographer.smugmug.com/   The last event I posted was from the GABA Mt. Lemmon Hill climb. https://thetucsonphotographer.smugmug.com/Sports/Cycling/Large-Group-Rides-Not-races/GABA-Hill-Climb-2018/

Damion

I DID NOT CONFIRM EVERY TIME, but did get in touch with most of the ride leaders and shops.  You should always verify times before you head out and remember these ride times are when the ride leaves.  Please show up as early as needed to make sure you are ready to roll out at the time posted.

Community Ride List Oct 21-27

Do you like competitions? I’m up against my kids to raise the most funds riding in El Tour De Tucson for Arts Express. Please be so kind to check out https://bikepilgrim.com/?p=998 and make a donation to Sam, Sophia or my campaign.

Did you miss the deadline for registering for el tour prior to the increased processing fee? Union Public House and Reforma, the official restaurants of El Tour have a discount code, but it won’t last. Save yourself $30, and then use it to grab something to eat. I can’t get enough of the pretzels, mason jars and Margaritas. Conveniently located across from my Long Realty office at River and Campbell. Let me know you are there and I’ll join you for a nibble and a drink. https://tinyurl.com/UnionPublicHouseElTourDiscount

Pachanga = Party! This weekend at Molino Basin, half way up Mt. Lemmon, is the TORCA Pachanga. Demo bikes, vendors, friends, beer, camping, cooler temperatures. If you are into Fat Tires, this is the place to be!

Damion

If you see someone  that is  not riding within their limitations or are becoming a hazard to others we should politely bring this to their your attention  Dothis for your and everybody’s safety.

WHERE DO ALL THE RIDES COME FROM?  These links and shops and clubs and teams and facebook and YOU.  See a ride that is missing.  Please let me know  Damion@DamionAlexadner.com.  Thanks

Community Ride List May 27 – June 2

Somewhere between the bike ride and the hot dogs, I hope you take a few minutes to reflect on why we have this three day weekend.  My heart felt condolences to all who have lost a loved one in the service of our country and my gratitude to all who have served.

_________________________________________________________________________ Update on the appeal to the zoning interpretations the WAPA trail access to Honeybee. Both the HOA and My Appeal are at an agreed standstill through the end of 2017, meaning the trail remains open to Rancho Vistoso Residents through the end of this year. Hopefully, if we continue to show respect for the neighbors this will become permanent. Respect means being quiet while you are riding by the homes, and not shining lights into backyards. We definitely are moving into summer night riding season, so if you must ride the trail consider taking a second low lumen light until you get past all homes. If you’re going out in a group I highly recommend using the church access route.

On a different note of access to the trails,The Town of Oro Valley, SDMB, the county are diligently working on The big wash route. I would encourage people to continue to show up at the city Council meetings for the call of the audience and say how important this is. A constant presence keeps it on The councilmembers mind. Up to the state land it looks like we may have a trail that we can start building as soon as this summer. The temporary trailhead has been approved and there is hope to finalize it late this year early next year. When the time comes it’ll be very important for us to be vocal about what we want to see if the trailhead.

I DID NOT CONFIRM EVERY TIME, but did get in touch with most of the ride leaders and shops.  You should always verify times before you head out and remember these ride times are when the ride leaves.  Please show up as early as needed to make sure you are ready to roll out at the time posted.

Ride list and Thoughts on Whats Happening in Bike Advocacy

It’s been a busy week on the bike front.

The city of Tucson is holding public meetings about how to spend $200,000 in impact fees that are designated for Sentinel Peak “A Mountain”.  Your voice matters. Take the survey here. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2RBV6RF Personally, I said “trails”. In the additional comments I mentioned a trail from the Mercado to the top of “A” Mountain and to the South to access Starr Pass and Tucson Mountain Park. This could be so huge for tourism and a safe playground for local kids of all ages.

Last Tuesday the Pima County board of Supervisors voted on a hands free ordinance in Pima County as a primary offense. In the past 5 years I have been working with Brendan Lyons from the State to the local municipalities to try and get people behind the wheel to pay attention. While this is a project that is still in process, this was a giant accomplishment. It’s rather incredible knowing that these efforts will save lives. Now we need to get Tucson to accept it as a primary offence and  Marana, South Tucson, Sahuarita, Green Valley and the University of Arizona to adopt an identical ordinance so we have continuity in all of Southern Arizona. It gives me great satisfaction seeing Pima county do what is the right thing when the State is unwilling to step up.

As the Executive Director of the Arizona Bicycle Center I have had plans drawn for a Velodrome, BMX Park, Cyclocross, Mountain bike Park, Pump track, Jump Track, crit course that is close to Mountain Biking and the Loop. I’ve had the conceptual plans for a few months, but have been waiting on getting County, City, and most important, neighborhood buy in. I’m super excited to announce the support we need from the County and City is in place and next week I’m meeting the neighbors. I’m chomping at the bit to tell everyone where this grandiose project will be, and hope to do so in the next few weeks.

The WAPA easement, the access to Honeybee Trails was reopened 17 days ago for Rancho Vistoso Residents. There is a 20 day window to appeal the zoning interpretation that opened it.  If there were no appeals it would have stayed open. However, from what I have been told, the Honeybee HOA is going to appeal this. If they do, I’ve organized a group from the cycling community who will be challenging the zoning interruption as well.  What the appeal from the cycling community will state is that the trail should remain open for all residents of Oro Valley and their guests.

Finally, as a Parks and Rec commissioner for Pima County I’ve asked for an item to be on the agenda at the May 12th Meeting.  The agenda item says “Informational update on Advisory Committee regarding speed limits on the Loop”.  I see the number one challenge on the roads, trails, paths is people not playing nice. Hopefully, others will see the value in creating a committee to deal with how we can make all the trails and paths friendly for everyone.   The meeting is open to the public and is at 9:30AM (unfortunately the same time as the GABA Mt. Lemmon Hill Climb). The meeting is at 3500 W. River Road.

If you see someone  that is  not riding within their limitations or are becoming a hazard to others we should politely bring this to their your attention  Dothis for your and everybody’s safety.

WHERE DO ALL THE RIDES COME FROM?  These links and shops and clubs and teams and facebook and YOU.  See a ride that is missing.  Please let me know  Damion@DamionAlexadner.com.  Thanks
