Tucson Road Clean Up

Ever go on a bike ride see a bunch of trash on the side of the road and think someone should clean it up because it would enhance your ride? Well, that someone can be you. Come help make our roads look better. Many hands make light work.

The best part is meeting other like minded people who are giving back to make our community a better place.

Hey everybody, clean up time again. We will meet at the church’s lower parking lot, drive up and walk back picking up garbage. Bring water, good shoes, and a poker/grabber. I have the bags and vests. Food somewhere after is usually a thing.

LOVE OUR CITY 2024 Tucson Refugee HQ Bike Assembly Event

Old Pueblo MTB has done a couple of these Bike Builds now, and word has gotten out that we’ve been amazing.
Last year 2023 & in 2022 we assembled a teams to put together 115 bikes that were donated by Jim Click, The Conquistadors & El Tour De Tucson for a big city wide event getting 500 new bikes into the community for families in need. We had some of the best mechanics and helpful hands OPMTB has to offer who just killed the assembly in record time.
This time Tucson Refugee Ministry needs our help. They received a grant to get 100 Bikes they can give to Adult Refugees here in Tucson in their system, much needed transportation. These Bikes will help these Refugees get back on their feet, give them transportation to get to Jobs & Schooling.
This Saturday – March 2nd, 2024 we’ll just be assembling half of them… or about 50 bikes. Based on our experience, and with about 12-15 “mechanics” and the support help we’ve already lined up, we expect that to go quickly.
We’re looking for 12-15 “Skilled” Bike assembly mechanics to help for a few hours. We’d love to have you on the team if you have some basic tools you can bring and want to be apart of assembling these bikes. Please speak up here if you’d like to be on the team again, or for the first time.
SECONDARY OPPORTUNITY
ALSO AVAILABLE TO HELP ::: we’ll be doing a “Flat Repair Clinic” at 1:00pm to teach some of these new bike owners how to fix a flat with the appropriate repair kits they are going to receive. If this is something you want to help with this would be from 1:00pm – 3:00pm.

Volunteering at the Tucson Bicycle Classic

Volunteering at the Race

Volunteers are what makes events happen…

In the words of David Burke “I’m either racing or volunteering”  Be like David.

Putting on something like the Tucson Bicycle Classic requires many volunteers that are excited to help the community and fellow racers. A stage race like the TBC simply cannot happen without your help. Thank you for volunteering.

Adaptive Cycling Weekly Tucson Ride

VeloVets adaptive cycling for Veterans with disabilities

Eduardo El Tour Handcycle.png

SAAS has the largest Adaptive Cycling Program in Arizona!
VeloVets adaptive cycling for Veterans with disabilities every Tuesday 4pm Sam Lena Park 3400 S. Country Club
Funded in part by the Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services as made available through the Arizona Veterans’ Donations Fund.

What makes VeloVets unique?

VeloVets has been helping our Veterans experience the thrill of being a part of something greater. Through teamwork, strength and community, VeloVets aids in an experience that leads to  a more active life through cycling while improving overall quality of life.

All are welcome, regardless of ability, to join us at our Tuesday ride. Our Tuesday rides have expanded so much, and we are welcoming so many more. We believe everyone can experience the joy that comes from pedaling or handling (the use of hand-cycle) themselves through the air and breaking a sweat (or not!) while spending time with friends, their community, and family. We feel that all of this contributes to a feeling of well-being and success.

Tommy Knocker 10

For those that don’t know, we lost two giants of the Silver City community in October 2022, Alex Olsen and Martyn Pearson. Not only did Alex and Martyn own the local bike shop, Gila Hike and Bike, they were also heavily involved with the local high school teams as coaches. As for Zia Rides, Alex was a long time Zia Rides employee and close friend, and Martyn was a true driving force behind the Tommyknocker. The Tommy Knocker 10 is now dedicated to Alex and Martyn, so help us keep their memory alive every year by making Tommy Knocker our biggest and best event.

With the help of the Villag

and the USFS we officially moved the event venue onto the grounds of Historic  in 2023. For those that made it in 2023, you are fully aware what an amazing improvement this was to the event. Better venue and a new and improved course make the Tommy Knocker 10 a great start to the Zia Rides Season.

Curve through the beautiful grasslands surrounded by enormous juniper and cottonwood trees, get a little bit wet riding through fun stream crossings, and see beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and meadows. The course is an intermediate 13+ mi. loop with less than 1000 feet elevation gain.

Bring the whole family for a weekend of killer riding, hanging out in the spooky but cool Fort Bayard staging area, and then go for a soak in local hot springs while sightseeing in the Gila Wilderness area. The Tommy Knocker 10 makes for an amazing getaway weekend of recreation and fun. We hope to see you there!
