Karen Hornbostel Memorial Time Trial

Since 1991, the KHMTT has taken place on Wednesday evenings in Cherry Creek State Park in early spring.

The weather is a bit unpredictable (this is Colorado!), but that is what makes the KHMTT unique and challenging!

The course begins at the edge of the Cherry Creek Reservoir, winds through the wetlands southeast of the reservoir, and crosses back and forth the small creeks that supply the water for the reservoir.

The KHMTT series is a fundraiser for the Cancer Fitness Institute in memory of Karen Hornbostel, and Bicycle Colorado.

Karen Hornbostel was a four-time masters national road champion who battled metastatic breast cancer for over 13 years, yet courageously pioneered a fitness program for cancer patients that started what is today the Cancer Fitness Institute. Her work is still making a difference today in the quality of the lives of thousands of cancer survivors.

Bicycle Colorado envisions a Colorado where riding a bicycle is always safe and convenient for everyone, where bicycling is the top choice for recreation and everyday trips, and where the benefits of bicycling are experienced and valued by all people in our state.

The COBRAS and the KHMTT are proud to be able to contribute to these worthwhile organizations.

Royal Gorge Six and Twelve

The Royal Gorge Six & Twelve is arguably the most beautiful course on the Zia Rides calendar with views, views and more views. On one side, you look out over the fruited Great Plains of America. On another side, you have fantastic views of the Royal Gorge and all the way down to the Arkansas River below. And don’t forget the snow capped 14ers in every other direction from the venue. To say the spot is pretty is an understatement.

Riders can choose from either a Mountain Bike

option and compete as a solo, duo, or team. The course is an intermediate 10 mile. loop of fun and fast singletrack that alternates between old school rocky singletrack and flowly machine built dips and curves. It is a true mountain bikers course with plenty of variation and views to enjoy. Did we mention that Cañon City has a professional trail builder who adds new trails and keeps the current ones in tip top shape? All of this is to say that you and your crew are going to get in some killer riding.

To top things off, Cañon City is a little hidden gem on the front range. In addition to having a lovely downtown, there’s tons of fun stuff to do and other great riding in the area with spots like Royal Gorge Bridge just minutes away. Bring your crew and camp for the whole weekend at the Royal Gorge East Ridge Campground, or just come for the race and take in beautiful views of snow-capped peaks. Whatever you choose, we know that it’s going to be a great weekend!

Come join us at Royal Gorge Park in Cañon City and play on the rolling climbs and descents through the park as you take in the views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and the Arkansas River! These trails offer plenty of rocks to play on mixed with flowy single track to make it a speedy day taking on either one or two loops. Grab a friend and make it a relay!

All rides will start and finish at the Royal Gorge Ranch & Resort.

I’m ambitious for making the best and most detailed ride and event list in the four corner states. The content is great, but I know that the format of this has room to improve (OK, it sucks) so I’ve been researching the best online calendars and hope to have all of the rides listed below uploaded in the next few weeks.  For now, the old format. TONS of events for the first 4 months of the year.  Still have not done any Utah rides and if you see anything that I’m missing, please let me know.

In case you did not know, I do this list because I have a passion for cycling, but it does not pay any bills. In order to find the time to do this list all I ask is if you are thinking of buying or selling real estate, or know someone who is, please let me know. Real Estate pays the bills and I can either do traditional real estate marketing like sitting open houses and making cold calls, or provide an actual service, like this ride list. Please and Thanks.

RIDE AND EVENT DISCLAIMER

These rides are not mine.  I am only sharing the data.  The Damion Alexander Team can’t guarantee anybody’s safety.  There are unknown and unforeseen potential hazards in every ride so you should pay attention and take reasonable precautions.  I always use a helmet.  I think that helmets should be required when riding.  If you choose to listen to music during rides you should only use the headset in one ear or use a bone conducting system.  Better yet, buy a FarEnd Gear earbud.  Communication is essential during all rides and having the ability to hear is a part of your responsibility to others.  Please also ride within your limitations. You are not racing the Tour de France.  If you see someone  that is  not riding within their limitations or are becoming a hazard to others we should politely bring this to their your attention.  Do this for your and everybody’s safety. 

Also, it is everybody’s responsibility to follow all traffic laws.  We are not lemmings.  Just because somebody does something foolish does not mean you need to follow.  Use your head and enjoy your ride.
