Why has the collision that took Ken Vieira and Clare Rhodes had such a deep impact on the community? I’ve been advocating for cyclist for nearly a decade and even though the deaths of Patricia Lyon-Surrey, Rafe Sagarin, John Henderson, Bruce Hedges, Jose Rincon and all the others were all tragic they did not capture the attention of the cycling community in the same way. This week the county installed a new stop sign on Mission Road at Los Reales. This is about a mile after “the Shootout” usually starts to hammer heading south. I’ve heard various ideas of how the ride should adjust for the new stop sign. What seems to make the most sense to me is to keep the roll out until a few hundred meters after the stop sign.
